There is only one rule about theology.
Whoops, my mistake.
There are no rules about theology.

God is called Jimbob and he's the uncle of the FSM. You can't prove he isn't. If you say this isn't a real religion, you're oppressing my religious freedom.

There is no such thing as "modern theology". If you want to stump a theologian - ask them for one new thing, that theology accomplished in the past 500 years.
No, the wheels fell off that wagon a loooong time ago, but it's difficult to tell, because it was going nowhere fast in the first place...

Would that include all of the theological work done in the areas of medical science?

Does that answer your question?

I haven't really seen "open your heart" used, but I have seen people say you should read it with an open mind. I always assumed it was in reference to how many obvious fantasy/supernatural elements there are in the bible. It goes back to what was already said, you have to at least believe in something while reading, which just tells me there's no point in reading it.

What if you read the Bible or the Qur'an simply to learn what other people believed...and then made up your own mind AFTER considering what they had to say?
Like you would just about any other book.

Ah, I guess that would work. Though that doesn't seem to be the main reason a lot of Christians want people to read the bible. I can't speak for Muslims.
