As a Deist I readily accept evolution as the best explanation for what happened.  I don't think god is some magic man in the sky, but more akin to a scientist himself.   Of course I also readily accept that this god is not omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent.

Okay not omni-anything.  But what about the maker of everything?  Is that negotiable?  How about a deity that didn't create anything except the conscious experience that you're having right now?  One that only has the power to: afflict you with Freudian slips from time to time; or give you bursts of insight and inspiration; or perhaps throw you into a deep dark depression.  Would you still call yourself a Deist if this was all the deity there was?

Let me know where you're going to place the Garden of Eden on this timeline.

Without checking I think it was Day 3ish... The bible points out that the garden was complete long before it was all said and done.

Again, the bible does not put dates on anything. The dates were added some 1500 years after the canon of scripture was closed. Dark ages religion assumed (wrongly) that because we were 6000 years out of the garden that meant we were 6000 years off of creation. When in fact that bible gives no time line between the end of creation and the exodus of the garden.

I learn something new. I was certain the Catholic church would NOT teach evolution. Guess i was wrong.

RE: Help Me Understand
I was wondering about that. Since the Catholic Church isn't meant to change or something, how could they have always accepted evolution? And I doubt they originally allowed people to say the OT was a load of allegories either. Did they? This sounds more like just rolling with the punches.
