Where do you stand on the existence of God?

RE: Where do you stand on the existence of God?
That depends on what you mean, I suppose.

I'm fairly certain that the Abrahamic God doesn't exist.  To me nothing about Yahweh makes any sense.  I don't see how he could exist.

I'm also fairly certain that no other religion has God right either by extension.  Though I'm less certain than with Yahweh because I've not studied other religions nearly as well.

I wouldn't rule out, however, the possibility of a God existing, or having once existed.  But I've seen no evidence to substantiate such a claim.

Why the fuck would I believe in something that's obviously made up. Every single superstitious belief reflects and less and less advanced culture. Go down to the bare bones of civilization like a forest tribe, they think fucking cameras steal your soul. Go into a more advanced civilization like the united states, they still have these superstitious beliefs, but it's a more general "he works in mysterious ways" type of crap. Either way, without any evidence of causation, there's no real reason to think that something make believe is real. We were a very primitive society, only just over 100 years ago. So you can expect that some of this preposterous crap is still going to happen.

I'm open minded enough that if I'm provided with clear, observable evidence that a deity, whichever it may be, exists, then I'll likely believe.

Worship, however, is another matter.
Dying to live, living to die.

There's always the possibility of some kind of deistic creator god that destroyed itself at the moment of initiating the big bang and, somehow, leaving absolutely no trace of itself or its hand in creating the universe.

What reason could you possibly have for thinking that there may be a god?

My actual position was not one of the choices, so I chose the closest, which was the second one.

How am I supposed to know if it is possible, even an extremely small possibility, for there to be a god? And more importantly, even if there was a way to determine if it is possible for one to exist, how would we determine what the probability of one existing? We don't have enough data points.

There are certain gods that I would choose the first option. Some gods, as defined by the texts that they are described in, cannot possibly exist.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Actually, the "problem of evil" has never for one second made me question God because I believe in free will. There was never a formal argumentative reason, except for maybe "why doesn't He show Himself to everyone all the time?" I've mainly just questioned it because I had never seen it so I toyed with the possibility that it could all be made up. I was never an atheist, not even an agnostic, but I'd definitely had times/phases where I wondered if it really is all true.

How do you deal with events that have extremely negative consequences that have nothing to do with free will?

The Japan tsunami, for example.

Inserting the word "natural", where does your god fit in the following by Epicurus:

Is God willing to prevent natural evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh natural  evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?

Cmon now, had people not freely willed -x-, then everyone knows they wouldn't be drowned, crushed, starved, diseased, or eaten alive. They deserve it. It's their fault, after all.
