RE: Where do you stand on the existence of God?
November 29, 2015 at 4:46 pm
I chose the first because I think it best explains how I feel about what gods I do understand.
Most people won't tell me exactly what a God is or how to identify it. As such I have no real solid idea of what they are talking about and can make no judgement one way or another. If I asked someone if they believed in kissizzlefritz, what would their response be? Clearly their first would be to ask what that was. But my only response is something so vague that it becomes nonsensical, such as "the soul of matter." The person would not be able to make a judgement because they don't know what it is. Such is my stance with God.
However some have been so kind as to provide some definitions of their gods. And those gods almost to the last one do not exist. They are impossible by their very definitions. The ones that are not are simply re-branding of physical phenomena. My dad calls the random chance of the universe God (despite my objections to him that the word carries a lot of baggage).

I am certain there is no God.

"I believe there is no God, but there is a possibility I could be wrong."
This poll option should be rephrased, as lack of belief in a god is not itself a belief.
Seeing as my view: "There is no evidence for the existence of any god, and while there isn't evidence for the lack of god, this and the fact that all evidence indicates that no gods are necessary means that I take the sensible view to assume that no gods exist, unless evidence at a future date proves me wrong".
Oh, and there will never be a point in the future where I'll believe in a god. If any god were to be proven to exist during my lifetime, I'd hold the same non belief in it as I do the chair I am sitting on.

With reference to Dawkins' Meme hypothesis; "religions originally provided a survival advantage to bloodlines".
I suspect that may actually be demonstrable with the Norse Prose Edda with reference to reindeer/caribou hunters.
The iconography directly maps to the hunters environment and would highlight significant cues directly improving a hunters survival and by extension that of his/her family.

None of the above: I am certain FSM exists and have been told by him personally all other religions are wrong.
"For the only way to eternal glory is a life lived in service of our Lord, FSM; Verily it is FSM who is the perfect being the name higher than all names, king of all kings and will bestow upon us all, one day, The great reclaiming" -The Prophet Boiardi-
