My anti-theistic perspective
|
I didn't make mine, I found it online and promptly stole it.
I kind of shift between apatheism, and antitheism, at times. Mostly because while I grew up religious, it wasn't this hardcore fundamental extremist kind. So I have somewhat of a neutral view on religion, and while extremist religion is quite harmful, extremist anything is going to be harmful. Any time you take anything to extreme levels, the consequences will be negative. Religion is no exception. The grandma that prays to god, and keeps her ideas mostly to herself, is not likely to hurt anybody. the guy that kills a gay man because he read leviticus is hurting people.
Poe's Law: "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

And I will mock people who use religion to bastardize science. Don't expect me not to. I think worrying more about offending or getting offended than the actual harm religion does far too often, allows bad ideas to go on to bad acts.
Any atheist that knows about theism is an antitheist. Otherwise, they would believe in God. They might very well not be able to believe in God, yet think that there is nothing wrong with belief in God, but that is misleading. For if one knows what is to believed and yet doesn't believe in it he isn't convinced that it is true. Any claim we deem as false is deemed bad by our brains. This was scientifically proven. Any time you think about something you deem to be false, you feel something resembling disgust or malice(or something along those lines, I can't remember the qualitative aspect of it for sure).
Any atheist that claims to not care about the fact that most people are theists, beyond what directly concerns them, is either lying or a psychopath. Of course, they could also simply be confused about it, which is a form of lying in itself. RE: My anti-theistic perspective

I think that if you listened to atheists and anti-theists describe the differences in their respectively held positions you might think otherwise.
Anti-theists don't just care that most people are theists...they care about what that appears to entail. If belief in these gods did something else, if it worked......then maybe a pragmatic argument could at -least- be made...but it doesn't even do that. This...and there's much much more, is a little more elaborate than "I don't believe in god". An atheist just doesn't believe what most people believe, in that context.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Let us talk frankly here. Most atheists are antitheist, as it is. If you're an atheist and you're not an antitheist as well, you're either ignorant or malicious.

I doubt that ignorance and malice exhausts all possible reasons that a person might be an atheist in the absence of anti-theism.
