Free will and humans
RE: Free will and humans
You were born with abilities and equipment that you could not come up with on your own as well.   You also had to be taught algorithms. As a response in favor of or argument for human free will, it's not only internally inconsistent, it begs the question. As an argument against computer free will, it's a non-sequitur.

Seems to be a pattern.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

@Rhythm, I'm sure if you could've spotted one logical flaw in there you'd have jumped at it since you aren't I'll just assume there isn't any.  Big Grin

I concede, I could never measure up to the logic in your argument Shy

How is that different than algorithms created by/informed by chemical reactions to stimuli?

Are you telling me that humans are incapable of forming algorithms?

I'm asking you to think about how humans form those algorithms, and how that differs from other things that can create/modify their own algorithms.

Sure.
Einstein used an algorithm to discover e=Mc^2.
How many computers have done this?since you feel there is no distinction

Okay, so you're not actually interested in a real discussion about it.  Good to know, so I won't waste any more time.

That response, regarding einstien, is a fallacy of relevance.  Commonly referred to as a red herring, or, collectively in regards to your previous statements, a shit-and-run.

Can your bacteria form an algorithm to break dance?

No, but is there any human being who can form an algorithm to solve the "Traveling Salesman Problem" in linear time?
