The # of firearms per capita seems near miraculous in light of these procedures. I would have expected it to cost more, too, if two police have to do interviews.
What I took from this is that EnZeds really, REALLY want to own guns. They want to own them so much that they're willing to do what they're required to do to get - and more importantly - keep them.
As for the low cost, *shrug* taxes are moderate and we get good value for our money.

I was recently corrected on this point by both Rhythm and Jormungandr. According to several different Federal agencies, the mentally ill make up a disproportionately small percentage of gun murders.
I agree that they make up a small percent of gun murders. But how about mass murders with guns? The spreadsheet is from mother jones and links mental health to incident. See columns J and K

Not much, but isn't any amount to much?
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2...of-murders
Quote:The mass slaughters listed in the report caused the deaths of 547 people. Over the same three decades through 2012, that’s less than a tenth of 1 percent of the 559,347 people the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates were murdered in America.
Also Firearms are the leading cause of murders:

Small. But what makes the headlines and get everyone stirred up?

My point is that psych evals aren't going to exert a tremendous effect on gun deaths.

I've never thought that developing policy by following headlines was a sound practice.

It's not. But the headlines seem to generate the most action and play to emotions. If you don't think so, why did the president and every major news source feel the need to address mass shootings? That's when the US gun policy gets the most discussion. If you don't include the mental health aspect in an over all gun ownership policy you'll see less support.

Yeah, I wasn't saying I think they don't play a role, just pointing out that pandering to them is not a good idea, what with the Law of Unintended Consequences and all.
