God can hear you, either you prayed deep inside, or screamed loudly, he is the witness after all. Everything you do, he knows about it.
Though, life is a test. He told us about the whole story behind our existence here:

We are here on earth, because of this event that happened in the dawn of time. We must combat Satan's seduction, just like our fathers and mothers before us. God knows what would happen, but what would happen would not happen if we didn't commit it to make it happen now, won't it? It would be a shame if God claimed to be just, and actually judged us solely without us having the chance to act.
No, we hold out destiny in our hands. If we saw God, then the test is ruined. We have what it takes to know the right from wrong; to combat the devil. And we won't succeed without the Lord's help. But a simple meditation session will point to him.

No we shouldn't. God has rights to do things to us, that we don't have right to do to one another. This doesn't mean God is allowed to do anything he wants. Just that you can't apply the same standards to God as you do other humans.

Sometimes it's not futile, thouh the results may not be immediate. I was a Christian for 25 years, and as long as I had an emotional need to believe, I continued to do so. All the reason and logic and questioning seemed futile. But these were the seeds that helped to shift my emotional needs. Have you ever heard that old story about the little boy who planted a seed and dug it up the next day to see if it was growing?
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
