RE: What makes a religion?

I am sharing a perspective that I believe Quran advocates and seeks to awaken humanity about.
False gods are many, true God is One.
Falsehood is religion is of many paths, sects, groups, truth and it's religion is of one path, the path manifested by his chosen ones.
There is the outward idols, but then truly what is worshipped and sought help from, is Satan, the source of all inward idols that create all outward idols.
Break all idols and purify the centre of your heart from them, for God and his light is meant to only occupy the centre.

"i•dol
ˈīdl/
noun
plural noun: idols
an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship."
I do not have any idols unless you're using a made up definition for that too.

I love my wife with all my heart, I adore her and I would die for her. But I don't worship her, or surrender to her. I am still my own man.
My general approach to life is pragmatism. Everything stems from there. Even if it's ultimately flawed, it's pragmatic to be pragmatic. But I don't worship pragmatism either. Nor do I have a clue what it means.

He changed his definition at least twice already lol.
He has already gone from "It's whatever you surrender to, follow to achieve and value most." To "Okay it's ultimately just whatever you value most" to "It's what you submit to."

This is a limited definition. In Arabic I guess the terminology all have different root words and language creates a different understanding. The same is true of the word "deen".
For example, in Quran, it says "have you not seen who has taken his desire as a god".
I guess there is barrier in language here. I've come from Quranic and Arabic background, and in various sayings attributed to the chosen ones, as well, as Quran, we see the concept of worship is not defined as what we revere the most or exalt the most, but what we value the most and are devoted to. What is occupies the devotion of our hearts. For example the word "ilahukumal takathur" "wealth diverts you", uses the same root word as "Ilah" (god).
I'll have to research the way worship was used through out the ages in the west. But for example, Imam Ali would state things like "they took the (lower temporary) world as a god...".
Maybe the words "god" and "religion" cannot be used like this in English. But this is the way they are used in Quran. If you research Quran, it came to people to awaken them with this perspective.
Perhaps this is one reason why God picked Arabic as the last revelation, because, of how the words allowed for this inner awakening and perspective.

In English "deen" is not a word at all.
