Quote:Secretary Kerry announced today that the United States is providing nearly $601 million in additional life-saving humanitarian assistance for those affected by the war in Syria. This new funding brings U.S. humanitarian assistance in response to this conflict to more than $5.1 billion since the start of the crisis. Secretary Kerry also announced more than $290 million in U.S. development assistance for education to Jordan and Lebanon.
The Syrian conflict is the largest and most complex humanitarian emergency of our time, with more than two-thirds of Syria’s pre-war population—17 million people—in need of humanitarian assistance. Through this humanitarian funding, the United States continues to provide food, shelter, water, medical care, humanitarian protection, and other urgent relief to millions of people suffering inside Syria and 4.6 million refugees from Syria in the region. It also helps mitigate the impact of the crisis on governments and communities throughout the region that are straining to cope with the mass influx of refugees from Syria.
bold mine.

How about that. So much for the US not doing their share.

They should respect the rules and culture anywhere they are asking to seek refuse at. Not just in Europe.

Many of them are really just economic immigrants and they want a more comfortable life. But i still can`t believe how people would treat them in Hungary.
On facebook people are hating on them like crazy. Absolutely badshit crazy.
Middle aged mothers (while smiling on the profile photo with their little grand-children) are commenting things like, "we should just kill them all" or "why not just shoot them".
I know these are only facebook comments, and they would be scared to do anything like this in real life (fortunately), but still it really annoys me.
These kind of behaviour is why i left Hungary to live in Portugal (people are quite nice here).

I`m from the North-west of Hungary, so we have quite a lot of immigrants/refugees going through here to Austria.

I know there are many view-points to this thing. Like, why refugees not just stop in the first country where`s no war and why are they want to go to Germany?
Or the hypocrisy: A lot of the people writing this kind if shit are the ones who are working in Austria for more money, so they are too economic immigrants.

I don`t know what would be the right solution for this crisis over there, but whatever it is, they are still humans!! As the OP said: "But what is worth more: a life or a bunch of money?"

It just really bothers me, that people are like this there. Sorry.

Bold mine.

It's sad that we'd rather get busy naming which countries take in how many refugees instead of loudly condemning the wickedness of ordinary citizens who say "Let's just shoot them all". I've seen it too myself - a grandmother on social media writing despicable comments about a boy whose body washed up on a Greek beach last year. Not comments about immigrants in general - no, she went out of her way to comment directly about the boy and his family. This while she had photos on her profile of her young grandchildren and "inspirational" memes.

How wide is the space between "my government needs to limit the number of immigrant refugees" and "Let's just shoot them all"?
I wonder.

Well yes, that`s what I intended to be the main thing.
I don`t know much about politics, i don`t know for sure that how many immigrants/refugees has been taken in by which countries. But at the end, it`s not that important, is it? It`s all about life, and not about money. Of course we need to be careful, but still we need to help them. Every one them, if it comes to that.

Think that's bad, you should see how Republicans here in the U.S. think of those types of people

I live in the U.S. Except for the first wave of immigrants - Europeans arriving here in 1492 - immigration has had a positive effect on our culture. New ideas , skills, languages, cuisines, skin colors and hair types. After a couple of generations assimilation , cultural modification, creativity. I would like to go back to the Ellis Island system A quick security check, health check. Check - your in.

I think if you're going to go that far back into the timeline of American history it isn't a case of judging what effect Europeans arriving there in 1492 had on your culture.

Because American culture as you know it didn't exist at that time so it wasn't there to be affected.  And who can really say how the timeline of history would have gone if Europeans hadn't arrived in America in 1492, you don't even know if your culture would exist at all if that didn't happen.

It's also slightly debatable to call them immigrants because from what I understand in 1492 none of those people stayed to live in central America.  I could be wrong about that point, did any Europeans stay and live in any land considered to now be part of the USA in 1492?

It would be a bit like me saying "Apart from the Romans coming to England in 43AD I think immigration to the UK has gone quite well." In reference to what you're saying about Europeans arriving in America in 1492.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Actually, there was American culture back then. When immigrants showed up, the American culture was eventually pushed out. We seem to forget all to easily that there were indigenous people here before immigrants came along.

There is native American culture which I'm assuming chimp isn't talking about since he's not native American and he's referring to it as "our culture" Which I'm assuming is modern day American culture.

That's why I said "American culture as you know it"
