You ignored the point of the OP and went straight to a personal derogation of the poster's character. That's a textbook ad hom, which you would be complaining about until the cows come home if anyone else had done the same to you. You could, for example, have made your general speculation in a general way - id est, non-specific. That's kind of the point about general speculations.
