That recipe couldn't have been very authentic. I've had Cuban black beans and they're typically bursting with flavor. This wasn't bad, just terribly bland. Some more tomato products, chili powder, a bit more cumin, a jalapeno, a serrano and a couple other small additions I can't remember off the top of my head and it came out quite nice. Not what I was aiming at, but nice all the same.
This is how new recipes for food comes about.... 
I'd call this a success!

Combined some leftover chicken stock with a package of veggie broth, a carrot, an onion and some matzo balls to make a nice soup. Currently drinking a Canadian red wine called "Raven Conspiracy" -- Best. Wine. Name. Ever. (Wine's pretty good, too.)

Just had an awesome pizza. Naan, a little olive oil and Greek seasoning, a sprinkle of cheese, some sliced up leftover brats, caramelized onions, grilled mushroom, red bell pepper and more cheese. Damn, that was good.

Well...Thena Sr. wants that big, stupid, leftover hambone from Thanksgiving out of her freezer. Takes up "too much space" she says.
A LIE...straight from the pit of HELL!
Anyhow, I'd hate to see it thrown away, and I'm not lugging it home to stick in MY freezer.
So I'm making split-pea soup, today.

I've been snacking most of the day as I've been in and out of the house multiple times.
Afternoon meal was a fish burger from a place I used to visit a lot, but haven' t been to in over a year because I'm not in that part of town as often. Burger not as good as it used to be but still edible.
After finally stumbling in at 10 p.m. with groceries, I made a sandwich with Habanero Jack cheese on a crusty Italian roll, and had a hot toddy to go with it (spiced dark rum mixed with brown sugar and hot water).

Chicken breast and stuffing made with a loaf of white bread that I had to use quickly.
