Talk me out of buying this

Looks can be deceiving. I like Epis, and one of the best guits I've ever owned was an Epi SG, but if you really want a Gibby, an Epiphone just won't do. Plus, the pickups are usually not nearly up to snuff on an Epi, even compared to the 490s on that LPS he posted. The guy's got seventeen large in the bank, he should buy what he really wants.

I think he wants a 61 SG reissue and a Mesa Subway Rocket ... and if he doesn't want those he can send them to me, I'll work with him.

It'll just clutter up the place and collect dust and haven't you already got like loads of guitars. (just channelling my wife there for a second)

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

This might shock you but I've just never liked the SG shape from the first moment I saw them.

Most of my favourite guitarists played with the classic Gibson shape. Slash and buckethead for example both have signature les Paul's.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Anyone want to try and talk me out of buying this motherfucking bad boy?

What amp do you have? No point buying your dream guitar if you don't have a decent amp to put it through.

Also consider what time you spent working to earn that 1K.

I think I've finally cured myself of the guitar now I've discovered the mandolin. And there's the entire mandolin family, the mandola and the Mandocello. And also the violin is tuned the same as a mandolin. They're just far more fun to play and don't need an amp.

Shape doesn't concern me much so long as it's not outright uncomfortable. Sound is where it's at.

You can look at a CD all you want, you won't hear a thing until you put it in the stereo... same with a guitar, now that I think about it. An SG can deliver 90% of a Paul's tone, and do a lot that a 'Paul cannot do. I know there are a hell of a lot of signature Les Pauls ... but none of them deliver the versatility of an SG. Gets mighty close to not just a Les Paul, but also to a Tele.

If you haven't tried a few out, do so. You might be surprised.

Here's Phil X giving a vintage slab a workout:

Though I gotta say, I never have liked Vox amps much, except when I'm listening to Brian May. Go big, go big glass ... give me 6L6 tubes with a little grind and an SG pushing 'em, I'm a happy sonofabitch.

It's actually very wise of you to point this out, I don't have an amp, I've got a model amp pedal which I plug into a bass speaker, it's actually not bad but a lot of people are sceptical about model amps in digital pedals.

Before I could drive I bought a pocket pod because travelling with a huge guitar amp on public transport wasn't doable.
