Although I'm not a fan of the song in question, or even that whole genre really, as people have said it's no worse than some rap from 20 years ago or more.
I agree, she just did that for attention. If she really felt it was harmful for her kids, she wouldn't have listened to the whole song in her car, let alone recite the lyrics in front of them. What a hypocrite.

Dating myself here, but I recall this "why don't you change the channel" stuff from when Three's Company was on during it's original run.
To their credit, most of the people I work with were very unsympathetic to anyone who watched the show, was offended by it, and then bitched about it at work. And for the young whippersnappers here, please note shows like Three's Company and Soap were VERY controversial when they first aired. I was amused that the outrage over Three's Company was more about a character pretending to be gay than for the portrayal of cohabitation. (and BION, cohabitation was illegal in some places) And Soap was very controversial too for having a character that was actually gay. And then Soap alienated quite a few actual fans who were gay by having the gay character father a child, so it got really complicated for the folks who were complaining about just having a gay character doing gay things. BTW, something else from the late 70s folks don't know about in this era was the alienation of affection lawsuit. If a man (usually) found out his wife was having an affair, he would sue the boyfriend for 'alienation of affection'. Sometimes the technique worked (for a while?) and sometimes it just catalyzed things to their inevitable conclusion. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
