Never understood "God dammit!"....if the situation is bad enough to swear, it's clearly already damned. ;p

Fuck yes. I have noticed that.

You can be talking about sensitive adult-subjects, like Trump's sexual assault, and they're totally fine with defending the Gropenfuhrer, but quote Trump by using the word 'pussy' in a sentence and suddenly YOU are the person who is beyond the pale. Like anything else, some things really bother some people and some bother others. Some people totally lose their cool when they hear someone speaking "christianese". Matthew 5:28 "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." It's the conscious decision to dehumanize and objectify another person. So yes, in Christianity, it is wrong to perceive another person as an object of your own gratification rather than a full human being who deserves to be viewed with dignity and respect. Even if you never act on it, having that perception of/attitude towards another human being is immoral.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

OK. Have either of you committed this sin?
Have you coveted? (just thinking this might be along the same line)
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Why is it that words in the conversation clearly bother some people more than the heinous implications of the conversation? Because taboo positively and demonstrably -creates- perversion and fetish. By creating a list of taboo words you also create a perversion of speech and perception, and a fetish for avoiding any association with that perversion. It's the relationship between enforced unfamiliarity and experienced discomfort.

I think it's usually men who struggle with that one. The way I've dehumanized people in my mind is when I've seen someone who is just super weird looking... like, wearing really weird clothes, having a ton of crazy piercings, weird hair colors, super goth types.... rather than just going on about my day and reminding myself that they are people, I kinda laugh in my head about it or think for a little too long about how weird they are. I've viewed them like pawns in a freak show rather than humans and that is wrong of me. To covet just means to be jealous/envious of what someone else has and dwelling on the wish that you had that thing instead of them. I think we've all done that. I'm sure I have.

British slang from the 19th Century, the word "cor!" was acceptable while "cor blimey" was not because it was a euphemism for "God blind me", aka taking the Lord's name in vain.
