I watched a documentary on this subject, it's the way their brain developed. One rarely chooses that path, they want to be normal but, the disorder that has developed over time has stopped them from living a normal life. Germany has developed a style of treating people with these urges. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015...hey-offend

I haven't bothered to read that article Sterben posted yet but doesn't chemical castration help? Drugs such as cyproterone acetate can drastically reduce testosterone in a short amount of time.

From what I understand, castration does not actually solve the problem. It merely prevents the individual from doing anything with a physical organ that is no longer there, but it does not in any way remove how the individual feels toward young children.

From what I've read about it does, but it's only used in certain cases. There is so many of them in world though and their is so many degrees of it. The definition of the in the English dictionary is (Psychiatry) a person who is sexually attracted to children. But, it's been used beyond the age of childhood. If you use the word according the dictionary, a female teacher who sleeps with 15 year student can be not be committing paedophile or acts of it. But, in the eyes of the law and the rules society a parent can be considered a paedophile for taking pictures of their children playing in the bath tub. A friend of mine works in a photo dept at a store, and he had to report photos like that to his manager. His manager had to call CPS by policy. He never told me what happened after that.
So, if you go what society says about the subject. Everyone's actions can be considered wrong in some ways. Would a adult man or woman who is attracted to a teenage singer wearing a skimpy outfit dancing and posing in sexual poses be considered a paedophile? Or should the word be reserved just for those engage in direct physical contact? Would a adult man or woman be guilty if he or she logged on to one those adult cam sites and watched a girl strip on cam only to find out after she was naked that she was 16. Would that make a person a paedophile?
I'm not defending those engage in sexual acts with children, I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the word and how's it applied in our modern society.

I agree. Using it in legal terms is just stupid. It's a psychological condition. Being attracted to your average 14 year old doesn't make you a paedophile, because they will generally be post-pubescent. In some countries the age of consent is lower, last I heard it was 12 in Holland.
We protect those under the age of 16/18 because of consent issues rather than anything else. They either won't understand what's happening, or if they do, they're likely to later regret it because they're not emotionally mature enough to make such a decision. They are also easier to manipulate by an unscrupulous adult.
So if someone is having a conversation, they need to be clear what the words mean. Just like a religious discussion. Definitions are important. Finding out you mean different things halfway through just wastes time.
What is the "correct" age of consent? There isn't one. Morality isn't a science. Personally, I think 16 is too young these days. 18 is more like it. People grow up slower now, in England at least. The age is more to protect people under that age from people over if; rather than to stop two people under that age doing things.
Side note: in England, I can have sex at 16 but I can't watch a video of someone having sex until I'm 18. Maybe we should change the law so that I can't watch a video of someone driving a car until I'm 19.

Personally, I think an "ideal" would be to have two parallel ages of consent - one at 16, legalising sex between 16/17 year olds, and then a second at 18 which acts as a boundary between people over and under 18.
Teenagers are naturally curious about sex and you will not stop them from having it whatever you do. But I think it's less problematic legalising sex between teenagers since there isn't an uneven power dynamic there. A combination of sexual education and legalising it strictly between teens would probably keep teen pregnancy and STD down, since their attitude to sex wouldn't be so secretive or un-informed then.

I don't actually know what the legal consequences are of two people (of the same age) under the age of consent having consensual sex. I don't know if there are any, in fact. Does anyone know? You'd have to punish them both in the same way, and I don't even know what would be appropriate.
If two fourteen year olds have sex for example. I expect the legal system would have no interest in prosecuting either of them.
