Would you attack the Church if you could?

RE: Would you attack the Church if you could?
Oh, I've phantasized about this for years - My dream is to make a vial full of antimatter at the collider at CERN, then smuggle it into St. Peter's tomb, just for added symbolic power of science destroying the bedrock of faith (get it, peter, rock...), and then have the stupid church people scramble to find it before the containment battery runs out and obliterates the vatican in a subnuclear firestorm. If I feel like it, I might at the last minute fake having a divine revelation as to the whereabouts of the bomb, and let them make me their new messiah? Not a bad plan, eh?
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Just be wary of pesky symbology professors who could scupper the whole thing.

You don't win the battle of ideas by being violent. I would not wish to terrorise people in order to get what I want. By being violent one is driving those people underground and we need those ideas in the public sphere to criticise then effectively.

Another question:

Would you reveal the truth to believers if you could? Like, if there was a way to suddenly show them what really happened during the time of their magical heroes, would you do it? It's a one-time-deal wormhole you found or something, rather than simple advancement of science.

Assume for the purposes of the question that they wouldn't simply ignore this evidence like WLC would. It would bring their faith crashing down.

The only way I'd like to 'attack' it is to force them to stop hiding molesters and make them face the law. Otherwise I don't give a shit.

Nah. None of my business. Free country and all that. Unless someone asked me to.

Indeed - I have a big red reminder note on my strategy board "Remember not to use symbols"

I suppose we have the same question for theists, would they want to see the truth and know once and for all! Worth a separate topic I wonder Huh

As Vic says, it's none of my business.

I don't think you're much better than them if that's what you'd do, but who am I to judge.

Personally I wouldn't do any of that but I'd severely keep them along with other religious organizations quite restricted. I would restrict their influental power to faith and faith alone, I wouldn't let them try and touch education, and I wouldn't let them influence politics alone if it was based on spiritual bullshit e.g. if you're going to be anti-abortion you better come up with something better than the unborn child has a soul. Just look at what happened in Poland, they proclaimed Jesus as their fucking king and their president was there.

I think anyone would. Most people on here do. I'm sure every athiest here has had a convo with a Muslim or Christian along the lines of, don't you think dinosaur fossils and evolution are pretty weird in relation to the Quran or bible.

I don't think you'd be restricting freedom by revealing truth.
You're saying there's a worm hole in your backyard magically showing you the creation of the worlds biggest religions and you'd just not tell people about it because they didn't ask?

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
