The same happens in science. New evidence can overturn old theories.
Some have so much evidence nowadays that it would be difficult to overturn... instead, they'd most likely need a few adjustments.

'We currently believe Darwinian evolution to be a fact,
however, that may change tomorrow.'
Instead, they act as though they know for a fact
