The Holy Bible - fact or fiction?

So far the list of achievements from that show includes Pads, Mobile phones, tricorders, replicators (3D printers), and numerous other inventions the show predicted.

Do you accept James T. Kirk, as your Lord and Saviour?

Not this shit again, this is just as bad. Scientists, not Gene, SCIENTISTS not Star Trek lead to those things. This is the same selection bias and sample rate error theism suffers from.

I get the same types of claims about flat screen TVs and hover boards from Back To The Future fans.

First off, in real technology business are always using science to make things smaller and more efficient. If we go by your logic you do know that the movie The Wizard of Oz depicts a flat screen TV in it, all be it round, still flat. How many si fi movies and shows of the Star Trek era or prior to it have you compared that show to?

The show didn't predict anything. It popularized the ideas science was already working on, but other si fi shows and movies of that time and prior had similar motifs. If you think Gene pulled his ideas out of his ass and got no inspiration outside that show, you are a fool. By the time he had created that show he had decades of entertainment experience and had seen countless other si fi movies and shows. Star Trek got lots of things wrong too. The warp drive is wrong and science in reality says it only plausible on paper, but not pragmatic in reality because it would require all the energy in the universe to produce. Even the transporter is an idea he stole from a prior si fi movie. It was nothing but a green screen trick other prior movies had used.

Saying Gene or the show "predicted" anything to me, is as stupid as claiming Aquinas knew about quantum mechanics. Lots of Christians like to claim he did.

He liked science sure, and he speculated as to what could be, sure, and he based his si fi on science, and sure, some aspiring scientists in reality may have said "maybe we can work on that". But neither Gene or the show was an actual lab. The real work and real predictions we done by scientists.

I don't give si fi wooers anymore a pass than theists. I am grateful for the show's inspiration of memes of inclusion and "what might be" sure, but the show was not a scientific tool or a scientist itself.

Now, go back and read my second response.

Oh, and the last line of my first response should tell you this is tongue in cheek.

I'm soooo ashamed I'm not a geek of that kind of show. I hope that does not take away my seriousness.

I should have listened to me younger bro's ideas more.

Yes, but of course the question has to be, did they predict these devices or were the creators of the devices inspired by the show?

A subtle but important difference.

Oh, and it's "dudette".

Smile

I'm basically a movie-only kinda fella, dudette. Which means I'm waiting for the second comming of the movie Local Hero. I'm totally identified with one of the characters in that movie and can't wait for a....how do you call that? A re-make? No, a number two, I think? A follow up?

Anyway...

Do I have write and direct it myself? Just asking.

I don't think you're waiting for a number two. By their nature, they're shit.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Even if you get to third base, number 2 is still number 2...

I'm out of this thread. At least that's for sure.

It gets a little weird, kittens get barbecued, and people flee? The only thing we have to fear is ABBA? My bad jokes? Nipples on men? Twins on the Simpson's cartoon, "I am so hungry I could eat at Arby's"?
