Several years ago one of my friends told me his 8 year old niece was sent to a summer Christian camp. The parents were not fundies but they just figured it was a summer camp for Christian kids and they would do the normal camp things like archery and canoeing and so on. This is in Canada and I don't think anyone knew that such camps were in operation here so the parents were not prepared for what occurred.
When their daughter returned from camp (two weeks I think) she was freaking out and crying as she was so worried that everyone she loved was going to burn in hell for any number of sins that had been drilled into her head. I was told she had to be deprogrammed but I have no idea how that was accomplished.
That's just horrible. Poor kid.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

That is fucking child abuse.
Not by the parents, by the "camp".
Were they able to get the camp investigated? Sued?

The truly disgraceful part about the camp in this doc is how the lady straight up admits that children are great to use for the christian agenda. It's despicable how little children are taught that watching Harry Potter and "talking dirty" with your friends at school is sinful behavior... and then they're taught that in the old testament the punishment for sin was death.
If there is a hell, there's a special place reserved there for folks like these people.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

I didn't hear any follow up, but the parents who are only casually Christian were caught off guard.

Watched it years after I lived it. I found it to be very accurate. I was inspired to look forward to being a soldier for Jesus, anticipating the day when we true Christians would have to literally fight for our lives against the worldly sinful unrepentant hordes. Probably speaking in tongues while we were at it.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I saw it. I also had my son watch it. Now it's become a piece of shorthand communication in the family.
Son: *Rant about how fucked up his childhood was*
Me: "Yeah, but Jesus Camp."
Son: "Good point. I love you, too, Dad."

I think you have to turn them off and on again.
