I'm not sure it matters exactly what his political leanings are - he's clearly unhinged. I wouldn't expect his politics to be any more coherent than his ranting.

At the asswad's arraignment he had what are being dubbed "outbursts" saying things like "Free speech or die, Portland! You got no safe place. This is America. Get out if you don’t like free speech!”  and “Death to the enemies of America. Leave this country if you hate our freedom. Death to Antifa! You call it terrorism, I call it patriotism! You hear me? Die.”

Dude, stabbing people to death isn't "free speech" that's a fucking felony.

There is also cell phone video of said asswad berating a Trimet operator (apparently) the night before he committed his crimes and he has a prior criminal record including three felonies.

And Update: two victims died, but three were stabbed.  The third victim's injuries were said to be millimeters from being fatal.

To be clear, Wheeler as asked the groups to cancel the events voluntarily, he has not gotten the permits for the events pulled as that would be blatantly unconstitutional and the ACLU is all over this story right now.  One of the events is being organized by a group dubbed "the largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in America" by the Southern Poverty Law center.

Dunno about anyone else, but I reject any effort to pull event permits. Earlier reports said Wheeler asked the feds to pull the permits. I have no idea what is true here.

So, I listened to NPR and a Christian yalk show 9n a local Christian radio channel today.
Word is there is an alt right free speech rally planned for this weekend. Also there is an anti muslim rally scheduled for the 10th.
The Portland mayor has asked the Feds to revoke the permits for these rallies. It is unlikely to be revoked, however. This much is fact.

Now we get the spin.

Why did the mayor ask this? According to his own comments, he feels it is inappropriate considering the recent hate crime, but more to the point, he worries that the timing considering the local mood may result in more violence. He has discussed with the rally organizers steps to keep their people safe.

According to the Christian news show, though, no mention was made of his stated reasons, just that leftist mayor shouldn't worry because this rally is about free speech, not hate, which they find ironic. Completely ignoring both the very real safety issues and the requested show of respect for the victims.

Expect more bad news out of Portland this weekend. Passions look to be running high all around. Many are calling on the feds to label this as an act of terrorism, or at least a fed level hate crime, saying if the attacker had been muslim, that would already be the case. I dont know if the latter bit is true, but in any case, the feds say they are still looking into it.

Ps to any AFers in the Northwest, avoid downtown this weekend, and the weekend of the 10th. Stay safe. Peace.

I wonder if he has honestly reflected on whether he wants people to actually practice the Christian values of charity, forgiveness, and love, or if he actually wants people to practice his interpretation of those values, which seems to be clinging to them when they are convenient and discarding them when they are inconvenient?   Also, regarding people who act in this extremist way, have they considered that backing up their purported "love" via violence and hatred just causes other groups to do the same thing toward them and others, which makes any attempt toward achieving one's particular love much more difficult?  IMO, it is almost as if they all act in perfect collusion with each other by finding ways to give each other justifications for continuing their cycles of hatred, fear, suspicion, and violence.
