and a hairy twink . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Its hard to find atheists who thinks like Bill Maher, its either conservative Christians with rednecks and corporates or its leftleaning atheists. Isn't 'conservative liberal' an oxymoron? If anything he sounds like a practicalist with a strong leaning towards favoring personal freedoms. Not a centrist, but doing what everyone who exercises critical thought does, picking and choosing what they like from either side of the spectrum. I hate that there's a divide there called 'left' and 'right'. If something makes practical sense and something doesn't, that seems a much better way to divide up policies than something like conservative or liberal. Those terms become loaded as a result and have largely negative connotations like bigots and idiots or elitists and cowards.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

I'm pretty sure what he meant was "more-conservative liberals" -- i.e., some who still held liberal values, but not so left as, say, Bernie. A "conservative liberal" is a centrist..... which is what they were whining at Hillary for being.

I didn't think that's what it meant, since that doesn't seem to necessarily fit with what parts of conservatism they favor more and vice versa. If it's cafeteria-style about what each side offers that you like, those labels cease to be meaningful, including centrist. That's why better labels should be applied to the myriad policies and beliefs.

Like it or not, there's a value in the distinction. Spiralling off to the extreme on either end of the political spectrum not only garners more criticism, it engenders suspicion. If I know someone is hard-right or hard-left, I naturally question whether or not they've imbibed the thinking of the group they cotton to. I'd rather have as President someone whose liberalism doesn't involve exporting bombs by USAF same-day delivery. Her conservatism was misplaced. |
