Since the cold war, America used all the help it needed from Muslim allies (like Saudi Arabia) to unleash these hellish militias (Al-Mujahideen, ISIS, Al-Qaeda). It's more of a superiority in covert ops, you can also see American forces fight publicly next to Shiite gangs like the "Popular Mobilization Forces". It became a pattern: once the U.S sets foot in a Middle Eastern state, black and yellow flags show up to shape the commands of the pentagon into existence. Their pretensions of forming a state have been crushed. In fact, their greatest victory was the start of their defeat. The problem with capturing cities is that if you fail to hold them then you no longer look like a winner - you look like a loser and they never had any hope of standing up to any modern army with complete air supremacy in a straight up fight. By taking Mosul they screwed themselves although to be fair they didn't take Mosul so much as the Iraqis gave it to them without a fight. The actions of the Iraqi army at Mosul in 2014 were shameful. They ran like rabbits from a force they outnumbered 10-1. You'd think we would learn by now that you can't expect a mercenary army to fight but then again, we never learn. As an actual army, ISIS is finished. They will go back to doing what they do best. Pin prick terror strikes. Expect enough civil strife inside Iraq to give them plenty of targets. Thanks Min. I'm glad to hear they have not come out of this so well. I guess it's impossible to get rid of all of them completely. There will always be crap going on in the middle east unfortunately.
 I have a theory that Saudi Arabia is going to crash and burn big time as soon as we stop using their oil.

I think Hitchens put it best, we'll never stop them until they love death less than we love freedom. Too bad that concept of an afterlife is so pernicious...we have it too, largely, but it doesn't seem to cancel out how well theirs motivates them.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?
