I'm nothing special in terms of recalling early memories. However, on one occasion, perhaps when I was around 6, I remember being in my basement and coming across a book on prehistoric people (Australopithecines, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Neanderthals etc.) that had cool illustrations in it along with figures that opened up out of the pages. I must say that I was quite curious and fascinated with this book.

Our brain must archive memories based on the age of the memory.
I can describe last nights dinner in IMAX resolution detail.
20 year old memories are in vhs quality, my brain fills in the other details.
As a young child, I only have 3 or 4, 5 second technicolor grade video clips.
My very earliest memories are actually black and white polaroid snapshots.
Does anybody remember what the womb was like?

In all seriousness, and this may have set a theme for my entire life, but my earliest memory is holding hands with my parents and going into a hospital, looking up as a plane flew over.

I have some early memories, but I have no clue which came first, but I seem to remember an X-ray procedure from when I was about 4.

It was my 4 year old self screaming at the top of my lungs and getting pushed out the front door by my mom on the first day of kindergarten. School was about a mile away so I had to trudge through town to the first day of school by myself. I asked her (a stay at home mom who didn't work outside the home) years later why she did that and she said "I thought you would want me to take you every day".
Suffice to say I made it a point to take my own kid to her first day of school.

Sometimes when the day is normal and nothing special is going on, I wonder if something random will make into my sons' collection of memories. I remember random things from my childhood.
-I was sitting outside with my bestie Wendy when I was around 6, when she stood up and started to twirl. Random.
-We were at the fair (around 6 also) and my sister asked my mom if the singer was Amy Grant. Random.
-we were sitting at the table (8ish) and my mom was making quesadillas. My brother opened his mouth full of food. I tried not to giggle too loud so my mom wouldn't scold him and burn the quesadilla. Random.
So... I wonder what random things my kids will remember and it makes me want to create fun and happy memories. I play with them. Let them climb on me and tackle me. Let them practice their best wrestling moves. Tell them stories. Listen to the oldest child's stories. Listen to their favorite music. Talk about the lyrics. I laugh at their jokes. Walk with them to the park. Then I wonder if they'll still pick the most random and least significant episodes to remember when they're grown. Lol like... mom was making enchiladas when the cat walked by and sneezed. Lol I'll find out one day.

Sorry, Teresa  I can't imagine the feeling. I see little children with backpacks bigger than their bodies walking alone all the time. Such a scary thing.
