Unofficial Big Bang Theory fan thread.

RE: Unofficial Big Bang Theory fan thread.
I used to love this show, but I think it has gotten too trope-y. I'll still watch it until it goes off the air, but they need to toss a wrench in the dynamic. The jokes are lazy of late.

I like Mom better.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

The jokes are nearly 100% based on predictable stereotypical characters, gimmicks and catchphrases.

Sheldon has misread some social interaction leading to hilarious consequences for the 1000th time, the Indian has trouble talking to girls, the Jew has a loud annoying mother who has various nagging things to say to him, Penny is good looking and not as smart as the geeks.
They are all very smart but Sheldon is the smartest.

It's not the most horrible thing I've seen on TV but it's definitely over hyped in my opinion.

My theory is that it's very wisely marketed as a comedy for smart people.  And the masses replied "I'm a smart people! You like Big Bang because you is a smart people too!?"  "Yes, I too like Big Bang, as I is a smart people.  Science!"

Not that this is some universal thing.  Everybody has their own sense of humor, and I'm sure it'd have an audience to some degree at any time.  But adding the connotations of "You is a smart people for watching" is why I think it's having so much success.

I still find it odd I like the show with no one appearing in it I find attractive.

Very few shows last more than 5 years. What year is TBBT in now?

According to wiki, the show started in 2007 and the same article claims it is contracted through 2019.

Shows always get old over time. I still don't understand why the Simpsons is still creating new episodes. I stopped watching it long ago. I did watch it for about 10 years but yea, as much as I loved it, it did get old after a while.

I am still interested today in TBBT, but sure, if the writers don't come up with new ideas for future episodes it will become repetitive.

Same thing happened with Three's Company. There was an early episode where Jack and Janet and Crissy were trying to hide a puppy from Mr Roper. In the last seasons they rehashed that story with Jack and Janet and Terry under Mr Ferely(sp).

No show lasts forever, at least not prime time fictional shows sitcoms or dramas. Even Law And Order only continued as spin offs, the original that started the franchise ended long ago.

I will hate to see the end of TBBT, but it will end eventually. Not sure the contract mentioned is a guarantee it will make it to 2019, that depends on the fine print. Kinda like when sports stars get pro contracts, the money you always hear about isn't always what they end up with. But even if it ended today, 10 years is better than most shows.

There's a pretty important difference, in that the Simpsons is nearly twice as many episodes per season run as TBBT, so as far as bulk, TBBT is far more manageable to get through if you're marathon-ing it. But I thought the Simpsons started out very slow, taking til about season 4 or 5 to get 'good', while TBBT started out very strong, while the Simpsons maintained that momentum far longer than TBBT which started to decline around season 7 or 8.
Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

There is no better way to convey the least amount of information in the greatest amount of words than to try explaining your religious views.

WOW, um whaaaaaaa?

Penny certainly changed over the years, but I found Bernadette very attractive and Penny early on. I also thought Lenard's brief dating of Raj's sister. HOLY FUCK WAS SHE SMOKEN!

The actor who portrays Zach is in a commercial for Geico sporting a beard. It's at least a step in the right direction.

Yea, you don't have to be into the same sex to say someone is attractive. I can call a man attractive without being attracted to them.

Raj's sister would be attractive to many hetorsexual men. I cant speak about the guys because I am not into guys. I can say even without being gay or hetro female, even from my point of view Raj while no Obama, would be someone I could get into if I were gay or female. I like his accent too.

Howard I could not be physically attracted to out of all of them.
