Mexico City devastated in 7+ quake

RE: Mexico City devastated in 7+ quake
My daughter's dad is from Mexico City. Her grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins are about 100 miles from the epicenter. As far as I know at the moment, they are ok.

My kid's dad was a schoolboy sitting in a classroom when a huge earthquake hit Mexico City in 1985 - that one killed 10,000 and was exactly 32 years ago today, ironically.

Just turned on Telemundo's live coverage en espanol and watching many scenes of collapsed buildings. Apparently the quake was quite deep, though - about 30 miles down.

I've been in a few small earthquakes and even if you're unscathed, it's very unnerving, to say the least.

That's a very shallow quake. Anything less than 100 miles down qualifies as "shallow".

Fox News site has cell phone video, shot from ground level of 2 high rise buildings VISIBLY swaying from the tremors.

Think of the power it takes to do that . . . .

I'm reading 119 people dead, at least. 🙁

Another horrible news. I must say earthquakes to me are the most terrifying because unlike other disasters there is no warning, you don't see it coming it just happens and one minute you're lying in bed and other you're buried underneath tons of rubble.

Many replies have been about asking him whether or not he's still going to make them pay for the Wall. My own included.

umm didn't he like give up long ago from intent that Mexico will pay for the wall and actually started pressing the congress for the money?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Probably, but that didn't stop a ton of people asking him about it. It was after all, one of the biggest campaign promises he made. I'll happily throw it in his face. Every. Single. Chance. I. Get.

He's a piece of shit. He shouldn't be where he is, ruining this country and making us look like idiots to the rest of the world.

132 deaths now, according to a source. Makes me wonder how Tijuana, in my back yard, would fare. California is soon to have some new seismic safety laws that will require two hospitals in my neighborhood to be rebuilt. Actually, I think this is the year.

DirecTV channel 402 has continuing coverage (in Spanish) it's the Univision east feed

I've been watching 10 minutes or so, many buildings pancaked. No shortage of help, but not seeing much machinery.

Caution:

some footage is graphic . . . .

Maybe it's encouraging so much TV and internet is still working despite the damage. Univision east is showing uploaded cell phone footage, and had some helicopter footage too. Live mobile unit(s) working too.

Jesus fucking Christ:

footage of even buildings 3-5 stories high flexing and swaying with the tremors.

and a 8-10 story building rocking back and forth 6 feet or more at the top.

Easy to understand the terror people have of re-entering buildings during aftershocks if they've felt it sway that much . . . .
