Damned Catholics
RE: Damned Catholics
Interestingly, when I saw this news I thought it was a conclusion of the story from the page 163, but no. When I checked the page 163 I was reminded that that one was about a 10 year old raped girl in catholic theocracy of Brazil, but this one is about another girl in Argentina who is 12

Quote:Rape victim, 12, gives birth to twins in Argentina after she was denied an abortion

Devoutly Catholic Latin America is home to several countries considered to have the world's toughest restriction on abortion.

The name of the 12-year-old girl is unknown, as is her attacker's identity, but outraged medical professionals have decried the authorities' decision to deny her a legal abortion.

The Jujuy branch of Health Professionals for the Right to Decide released a damning statement on the handling of the case:

'Despite the fact that the National Directorate of Sexual Health made an offer to immediately resolve the situation, preserving the physical and emotional health of the girl, the authorities in charge of the local Health portfolio, rejected the proposal and they decided not to guarantee this girl her right to ILE (legal interruption of pregnancy),' the statement read.

It was posted to social media along with a comment accusing the State of 'sinisterly perpetuating' inequalities faced by abused girls when it should be protecting them.

The girl reportedly underwent a caesarean section operation at the Hector Quintana Maternal and Child hospital last Sunday.

Health Professionals for the Right to Decide, accused authorities of deliberately delaying acting on the girl's situation until she was far enough into her pregnancy for the twins to survive outside of her womb.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Oh no! Blood of saint Gennaro didn't liquefy and now Catholics are terrified of what will happen next

Quote:Blood of Naples saint fails to liquefy in what some see as bad omen

The blood of San Gennaro, the patron of Naples, failed to liquefy despite two rounds of praying by the faithful, which some in the southern Italian city see as an omen of bad things to come.

It did not happen on Wednesday despite hours of praying in the morning and a special Mass in the afternoon. Fewer people than normal were allowed into the cathedral because of coronavirus restrictions.

When the blood failed to liquefy on September 19, 1980, a massive earthquake hit southern Italy two months later, killing more than 3,000 people.

On Wednesday the city's cardinal, Crescenzio Sepe, told the faithful not to be overly dismayed. "If something needs to melt, it is the hearts of people," he said.

Bill legalizing abortion passed in pope's native Argentina

Under Wednesday’s majority vote, abortion is legalized up to the 14th week of pregnancy, and is also legal after that time in cases of rape or danger to the mother’s life.

Argentine senators debated for hour after hour over legalizing abortion, wrangling into the early hours of Wednesday before a vote that could mark the culmination of a decades-long fight by women's groups in Pope Francis' homeland and have repercussions across a continent where the procedure is largely illegal.

Argentina currently penalizes women and those who help them abort. The only exceptions are cases involving rape or a risk to the health of the mother, and activists complain even these exceptions are not respected in some provinces.

Just hours before the Senate session began Tuesday, the pope weighed in, tweeting: "The Son of God was born an outcast, in order to tell us that every outcast is a child of God. He came into the world as each child comes into the world, weak and vulnerable, so that we can learn to accept our weaknesses with tender love.”

A previous abortion bill was voted down by Argentine lawmakers in 2018, but this time it was being backed by the center-left government. The outcome of the latest vote, however, was still considered uncertain.

Argentina’s feminist movement has been demanding legal abortion for more than 30 years and activists say the bill's approval could mark a watershed in Latin America, where the Roman Catholic Church's influence has long dominated.

“Our country is a country of many contradictions. It is the only one in the world that brought members of its genocidal military dictatorship to justice with all the guarantees. But we still don’t have legal abortion. Why? Because the church is together with the state.”

RE: Damned Catholics
This is from a Catholic website and it is an introspection on greed, racism and insanity within the Catholic Church.
Quote:Catholics need to confess their complicity in the failed coup

This is the culmination of what this presidency has been about from the beginning — and some Catholics have remained silent, or worse, cheered it along, including some bishops, priests, a few sisters, right-wing Catholic media and too many people in the pro-life movement.

We're talking to you CatholicVote.org, Attorney General William Barr and other Catholics in the Trump administration, Amy Coney Barrett, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Bill Donohue of the Catholic League, rogue prolifer Abby Johnson. Sadly, the list goes on.

And what about the everyday Catholics — some 50% of them — who voted for Trump this year, after four years of incompetence, racist dog whistles and assaults on democratic norms? Not all were at the "protest" in Washington, but many have supported organizations that fanned the flames. Too many Catholic voters were content to cozy up to Trump in exchange for tax breaks, or Supreme Court judges, or subsidies for Catholic schools.

Many of these folks have been shaped by right-wing Catholic media, whether rogue priests on Twitter, websites such as Church Militant or LifeSiteNews, or the Catholic media conglomerate the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). The latter, with its veneer of respectability, has misinformed millions of Catholics worldwide with its biased news and opinion shows. EWTN anchor Raymond Arroyo, who moonlights on Laura Ingraham's show "The Ingraham Angle" on Fox News, where he is freed from the EWTN's alleged respectability, deserves singling out.

While some prelates have spoken out all along, the bishops' conference, as a body, must publicly confess and atone for its complicity in empowering the president and the Republican Party in this violence and in denigrating the Democratic Party. The U.S. bishops could start by disbanding that ad hoc, adversarial committee on President-elect Joe Biden, and use its various resources to re-shift how we discuss what it means to be pro-life Catholics. A pro-life movement unwilling to exclaim “Black lives matter” is not a pro-life movement.

Our religious leaders, many of whom perpetuate the very white supremacy that led to yesterday’s coup, must begin the long, hard work of trying to rebuild a political culture of trust and unity. That cannot be done with hyper-partisanship and an intense focus on only one issue.

A frequent refrain in the aftermath has been that "we are better than this." In some ways, that is false. This is part of who we are — it has always been part of who we are — and Trump has emboldened and legitimized it in ways that are frankly terrifying.

Quote:Irish Government: Church-Run Homes for Unwed Mothers Led to 9,000 Dead Kids

A new report from the Irish government finds that about 9,000 children died in Catholic Church-run homes meant for unwed mothers between 1922-1998. The government helped fund these faith-based torture chambers where some victims were treated like lab subjects, testing out vaccines without any consent from their parents.

Researcher Catherine Corless, who had been looking into a home in the same region once run by the Bon Secours nuns, realized that many of the children who had died in their care (up to 800 of them over several decades) had no records of public burials. She wondered if all those children had been “buried” inside the septic tank.

Women who gave birth outside marriage were subject to particularly harsh treatment. It was supported by, contributed to, and condoned by, the institutions of the State and the Churches.

The Catholic Church ended up killing babies and children in their attempt to paper over their very existence. Much of this cruelty occurred before 1953, when adoption became the preferred approach. And Ireland has, in a sense, revolted against the Catholic Church’s rules more recently, voting in 2018 to legalize abortion.

These children, so poorly cared for by a group of Catholic nuns over several decades, were tossed aside so carelessly both in life and after it.

Ah, Facebook censoring clergy for telling lies

Quote:Blasting Bill Gates and claiming Covid vaccine contains Satanic microchips gets Mexican cardinal censored by Facebook

Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez claimed in a video on the social media platform that vaccines to combat the spread of the coronavirus contain “the mark of the beast.”

Will Facebook censor them when they say other lies as well? Like when they say that Jesus resurrected, that Mary was a virgin, that Jesus will return. I mean who do they think invented “the mark of the beast” if not the king of fake news: Jesus Christ.

RE: Damned Catholics
Here's actually a positive story from the Catholic Church - or is it?

Quote:A group of U.S. Catholic bishops has released a statement condemning the bullying of LGBTQ youth, insisting “all people of goodwill should help, support, and defend” them

The signers noted the Catechism of the Catholic Church — which describes “homosexual acts” as “intrinsically disordered” — also calls for LGBTQ people to be treated with “respect, compassion and sensitivity.”

“All people of goodwill should help, support, and defend LGBT youth; who attempt suicide at much higher rates than their straight counterparts; who are often homeless because of families who reject them; who are rejected, bullied and harassed; and who are the target of violent acts at alarming rates,” the statement reads.

The signers of the statement, for their part, directed part of their comments directly to LGBTQ people, saying, “know that God created you, God loves you and God is on your side.”

Only a pack of hypocrites would claim to be supporting LGBTQ youth while acknowledging the Church's stance that homosexuality is "intrinsically disordered."

Nah, they can use that language to force treatment out out of respect, compassion, and sensitivity. It's not hypocrisy so much as we read decency into it because we want to.

What? You can't even say like "Fuck Jesus" in Italy?!

Quote:Buffon in blasphemy probe by Italian soccer federation

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was reported to an Italian soccer federation court on Tuesday for allegedly using a blasphemous expression.

The federation said Buffon uttered the words - which they did not specify - while shouting at teammate Manolo Portanova in the 80th minute of Juve's 4-0 win at Parma last month.

In Italy, blasphemy is considered among the worst type of swearing. The issue is being raised more frequently with games played behind closed doors and remarks picked up on pitchside microphones.
