Yes, "our guy at any cost" gave us Trump And if progressives did 'our guy at any cost' maybe the right wing would have to move to the left a little, allowing us to have more progressive candidates. Going for 'Our guy, unless they're progressive' just leads to candidates moving to the right to appeal to right-wing voters, because they're... you know, actually voting.

You might think that, but they're not even remotely rational actors. They don't move left. If the dems win they start screaming about white genocide. Did you miss all eight years of Barry's presidency?

The idea we should try to appeal to the right is silly . They want all or nothing . The only way we can appeal to the right is to become them . And who would want that?

I can distill my entire position on this matter down to a single stolen joke. American politics has become a game of tic tac toe; the only way to win...is not to play.
It's not that I don't have hope, lol. I think that my kids will die in a better USA than I will. I just can't bring myself to believe against all evidence to the contrary that the way to get from here to there is by playing this silly little game that's been engineered for us. Elections have become the proverbial bread and circuses. They're a distraction..an episode of survivor to keep us yanking levers but otherwise complacent for the next few years..until it's time to yank a lever again.
That much, imo, should have become painfully obvious when america elected a reality tv talking head.
