Which seems too good to be true.

There are many reasons people have NDE's, and every one that I've read about seems to have a logical explanation.

Or, to answer question two, they're made up.  Yes, some theists will most certainly lie if it will get a couple of people to join their belief system.  A famous example is a young boy who "died" and went to "heaven".  The boy told the story publicly and the father wrote a book about it.

Then the boy came forward and said it was all made up and his father had told him what to say.
Dying to live, living to die.

They don't need to be made up.  NDEs appear to be a legitimate neurological phenomenon whereby people in medical crisis imagine an afterlife.

I don't believe for one fucking instant that they actually saw a real afterlife, though.

I'd be willing to bet that whatever slim portion of nde stories are credible reports of an actual experience still contain significant exaggeration and, shall we say "mis-remembered" narrative arcs.

Somebody hasn't tried a high dose of LSD or DMT. Hallucinations can be INCREDIBLY rich, vivid, and complex and drastically change people. NDEs are no different.

Indeed.

The fact that NDE's have these attributes; richness, clarity, complexity, and how dramatically they change the lives of those who have experienced NDE's, does not mean that they are actually experiencing a glimpse of an afterlife. All this proves is that they have different attributes that other types of hallucination experiences than non NDE hallucination experiences.

And yes, my experiences with mushrooms and DMT had all the same attributes that Neo-Scholastic describes related to NDE's, including changing my life.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

That's why we seek out altered states in the first place. To change our lives.

I can't say aliens don't exist to UFO fans. Same thing with God fans. They wish to buy a ticket to heaven(peaceful and relatively sane believers) - that's their business.

Have you had a chance to look around the world?

African Christians burning children alive for being witches, Muslims blowing themselves up in public places, creationists trying to get their pseudoscience taught in public school science courses, politicians not accepting climate change because their ancient text claims that god will not destroy the world in a flood again, homosexuals persecuted (and thrown off buildings in some countries), wars started, planes flown into buildings at several hundred miles an hour, children in the US prevented by their parents from getting medical help, etc, etc, all for one ridiculous, unsupported religious belief or another.

If you are not angry at any of the above, then you just aren't paying attention.

Yeah....it is the same, and you can.

If they would keep "their business" to themselves...then..it would be "their business"..but they don't.  That leaves folks like you and I with the onerous task of putting someone else's penis back in their pants.
