*trigger warning* What if atheism's not all it seems?

RE: *trigger warning* What if atheism's not all it seems?
Seems like a poe to me, with the 'every-man-for-himself cesspit' characterisation of atheism.

Oh?  Our boy Neo thinks the same..and that anyone who doesn;t think that is deluding themselves...somehow. Never misses a chance to bleat as much out. Ba-ah-ah-ah.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Maybe... but this guy's professing to be an atheist, or at least one in the past.

OP was a shitty atheist.

Rationality doesn’t need to be cold, or amoral. Empathy is an evolutionary trait, and concepts like doing no harm (or the least amount of harm possible) and respecting others’ boundaries/consent don’t need any special/divine underpinnings. There’s a reason why there’s so many secular humanists.

Regarding declarative statements, no, we don’t know with 100% certainty that there isn’t anything more. But it’s really hard to have a conversation if there’s a need to point out the caveat. It’s shorthand.

There are no atheist bishops. Like Khem, I’ve never read anything from those authors. Outside of this site, I don’t seek fellowship with other atheists. There are no rites or rituals for me to perform, or tenets to follow.

So, yeah... you don’t represent everyone.

Neo's said the same.  Fact is.....this shit is common, honest or not. Calling POE because we think that some person is a dishonest shitwad..is ignoring the possibility that "The Real Deal" is a bunch of dishonest shitwads.

PhilosophicalZebra,

Why do you believe in ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern and Asian religious fairy tales? Surely you're more intelligent and rational than the superstitious twits that concocted those fairy tales?

Quote:But amidst all of my unwavering sense self-assurance and intellectualism, I now see in hindsight that I failed to ask myself one very important question - what makes me so sure of my beliefs?

What beliefs? Lol I don’t need certainty about nothing. If there was a something that I believed in religiously, I’d want reasons and facts to hold on to, so the something made sense. I don’t believe in any, so why do I need certainty of anything? I know nothing. Lol the religious folk should try to stop playing around and actually prove shit. Good luck with that.

And I don’t care if a person’s house burned down and now their only hope is their god. If it makes you feel better to make believe, shoot. I won’t stop them. If my house burns down, I expect my family to let me sleep on their couch for a while. Makes sense to me.

Fair enough... it was just my first impression.

So you want to know " What if atheism's not all it seems?"

What's it supposed to "seem" to be? All atheism is, is simply a lack of belief in a god or gods. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's no "organization" or anything. Outside of that one simple statement, fellow atheists are like night and day. We are each uniquely different and enjoy various amounts of activities and interests that have zero to do with atheism. Sure organizations like FFRF exist but that in no way indicates that everyone who is a member, subscribes to rituals or anything else. To compare Atheism to religion is just absurd thinking.

Besides... how does that actually trigger anything for anyone?
