Reality is there are guns and anyone that wants one bad enough can get one. So yes, education, but yes, also protection. It's not an either/or. They're addressing two different, but related issues. If the people in a room are, for whatever reason, incapacitated, emergency response couldn't get to them. Two immediate examples I can think of are carbon monoxide poisoning (a frequent occurrence in New England during the winter with poorly maintained and/or ventilated heating systems) and science classroom issues (fires, explosions, chemical spills/issues, etc.).

Simple enough, have a master override switch. The doors would only be one way in emergencies. And the officer could open them all with one command. And the top windows would be able to be opened. Single entrance with metal detectors, and an armed guard. They described it as simalar to what would be seen at a government building. I didn't say that I'm all for this solution. I think that there are pros and cons. However I think that you are on to something, when you say that the problem is not just schools, and the "nuts" will move onto something else. I think that much the same reasoning follows with banning guns. I think that many are focusing on an aspect of the problem, rather than the cause. To me, no different than what you are saying here, about eliminating school shootings, but moving the problems elsewhere.
