He wasn't wrong in his reasoning that executed inmates don't become repeat offenders.

Having said that the recidivism rate of paroled murderers is considerably lower than it is for people convicted of other violent crimes. One of the reasons for this is believed to be the murderers spend more time in jail so they are older when they get out and less likely to kill again. While that isn't much of an argument for the death penalty, it is a decent argument for longer sentences for other types of violent offenders.

If you're not going to have the death penalty for murder, then life needs to mean life. You come out of prison in a box.

I am not claiming he had an excuse, I he did not, nobody does for any reason.

I was saying if we want less violence as a society we need to foster conditions long term that make more people stable so that others if that individual is having problems, we have the time and opportunity to prevent it.  Saying hurricanes happen does not mean you want to be in their path, but we can look for signs of a hurricane, and we can evacuate and promote better building codes. 

He was disturbed regardless of his motive. I think family and especially psychologists and teachers should have more power to get law involved with any disturbed person before something really bad happens, not so much for that individual, but for public safety in general.

The Boston bomber brother, the older one was a domestic abuser and lost his kick boxing licence, and that loss of the income allowed him an excuse to hide behind religion to play false martyr. Sure he deserved to lose his livelihood. Just like if you drink and drive you deserve to lose your drivers licence. But why not try to prevent the conditions before it gets to that point? 

I can tell you in my youth there were times I was angry at the world myself. I am just glad I never got that destructive. I can tell you I was isolated up until High School and didn't have any real friends till then. My parents were authoritarians and had nothing but bullies on my street. There were times I wanted to get even with them in a violent way. I feel lucky that I was too scared to act on it, but the feelings were there.

I can tell you that when I finally had friends and my hormones left me, I was able to talk to others and didn't feel alone. But I do wish I had had growing up the same emotional support I have now. Intervention before hand is not an excuse for after the fact.

No not about that one bit.

I am talking about a long term economic climate that is equitable and fosters stability for more, regardless of zip code or skin tone.  I am not talking about coddling the bigotry of the far right. I think every child, every teen and young adult everywhere and every school and every parent have the stability and support and that our health care system and mental health foster that stability. I am talking about the stability of every zip code and I 100% know and accept that certain groups are affected far more negatively on average than the white majority. 

I agree that there a vile political climate of "White identity" poisoning our politics.

I was already right with the guess that it would be a white male but that was sort of predictable.

My next guess is that the motivations were political in some nature most likely making the person a terrorist.

Unlikely, here...because we'd be content to pretend that it was a complete mystery to the end of time...and we generally don't call the whiteys terrorists even when they do fit the definition.
