Peterson's 12 Rules For Life, have you heard of this?
RE: Peterson's 12 Rules For Life, have you heard of this?
I'm thinking of burning the book to see if any evil spirits come out.

PS: Yes, I've met many utter cunts in my life. But I don't assume they're all part of some organized plot. They're just cunts, mostly too stupid to make any changes even if they wanted to.

Well, let's see.  I've met those particular people, and a fair % of the people I've worked with in Korea have been among them.  There could be something about teaching in Korea that draws certain elements.

But then I see your pretty snide ironic comments about white men in this thread, and Tiz' full-on hostile ones.  I see the kind of comments that pop up in various sites.  Okay-- the internet, the entire internet, may draw certain elements, or draw certain behaviors from people.  That's not a small sample size at all, but it is such a narrow context that it still might lead to an understanding.

But I have some pretty entertaining evidence that I'm not the only one who sees it. The end of this clip is brilliant. I might have to change my online name to jimmyboy.

IDK, maybe.  I have no idea what it's like in Korea.  I can only note that when you tell me what the pc left is it doesn't resemble anything recognizable as the pc left..even if it does resemble the worst fears of right leaning agitprop.  It makes me think that huge swathes of people are confusing assholism for leftism...or more specifically for social justice, equality, egalitarianism.  Or that..perish the thought, they're operating on bad info.

But I have some pretty entertaining evidence that I'm not the only person who's aware of the unreasonable nature of the PC crowd:

I sure we've been down this road before..but beyond the strangeness of getting your information about political ideologies from south park, an off the wall parody...those guys are openly right wing.

I already know that people like you and the creators of south park believe this sort of thing....I'm wondering why.  I'm right here.  I'm the marxist hiding in the closet culture warring people(allegedly).  Why is all of this foreign to me?

I asked you a whole raft of questions about how you saw the pc left, why you think they blame white men for the things you mentioned.  I don't, I could never take such a suggestion seriously...but you seriously think that the left does.  Something is amiss.

A brand new example presents itself.  Do you think I make snide remarks -about you and your comments- because of some belief I have about white men?  Is it one of those..an attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us..sort of deals?

Show of hands other white men..does anyone else feel ethnically anxious and threatened by my remarks to Benny? Wink

Well, let me ask you again-- in your mind, why is there such a term as "PC left" rather than just left? Why do YOU think I identify strongly with the left, and with complete aversion to the PC left?

I cannot speculate on why you dismissed my very real tales of annoyance with such snide one-liners. And I'm not immediately sure, but it seems you may have changed your mind and edited them out, since I can't currently find them. But unless I misremember, your first response to my complaints about the effects of PC bullshit in my own workplace was, "Awwwww. . . so hard being a white man" and I'm quite sure that was meant ironically. So my human experience, at least at that point in the conversation, was irrelevant, very much on the basis of the implied privilege of my being white. I'm pretty sure if I was black, and was outlining similar frustrations I had with racists, your reaction would have diametrically opposite in its nature.

That I was on the street at 14, sexually harassed and sometimes beaten, lived in abandoned buildings, often with dirty old pervs trying to stick it to me, until I was emancipated (and therefore able to apply for welfare) at 16, worked 12 hours a day starting at age 17 in order to buy a piano, then practiced 8 hours a day to get into music school, which I paid for with student loans which burdened me for another 10 years-- it doesn't feel particularly like privilege to me. You've accused me of "virtue signaling." Should I assume that you're now going to coin the term "victim signaling"?

The PC position is that unless I'm willing to tell my entire life story, it should be assumed that any black or gay person automatically has issues that matter and a struggle in life worth caring about, and my difficulties as a straight white man should be assumed to be so trivial as to be discarded with a snide remark. Sound familiar?

Now, let me ask you to speculate on my perception of the world. Do you think I consider you more or less thoughtful than the average Joe on the street? And given that perception, if even you respond in that way, what would I expect from people less thoughtful from you, i.e. almost everybody with your politics but absent your intellect, consideration, and (apparently) free time to ponder these issues?

It exists as a boogeyman to exploit your anxieties, created by those same people who do the exploiting..in order to divide you against your fellows.

IOW, you're being identity politic'd and culture warred all to shit....just not by the people you think you are.

What we need to do is get you enrolled in one of our reeducation centers so that you can prepare yourself to reject these false narratives, comrade!

Wink

It is no ones plan..for example, to "ban alpha males"....it is..however, something that alt right nutballs talk about like they dream of it nightly.

It is not a contention of the left, for example..that some poor students bad grades are caused by white men.

Unemployed, don't have a doctors note?  Yet more things that are not caused by white men, that the left is not blaming on white men.  It is, however, nutballs on the alt right who contend that every silly thing gets blamed on white men, those poor suffering souls.

I could continue, but I shouldn't have to.

Hey..here's a theory?  Might it be the case that a more visceral anti-colonial resentment in se asia..combined with right wing agit prop and parody, and legitimized by psuedo intellectuals trading on irrelevant qualifications....has led to your current understanding of the pc left?

Do you know something about Korea, now, or the Asian views on colonialism? Do you know something about my relationship with Asian culture, other than that I live in Korea? And, most importantly, WHY do you keep trying to dig into my personality in order to explain my positions, when I'm explicitly stating my reason for holding them? So now my list of moral shortcomings include: anxiety, insecurity, a persecution complex and. . . how even to word this? Anti-colonial resentmentism? Could it not be that I just think there are too many lazy incompetent assholes, and I see the patterns by which they are trying to excuse their shortcomings, and that because there are so many of them, their essentially negative and escapist views are working their way through western culture like intellectual cancer?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness

I'm telling you in no uncertain terms what the PC left is. It is those who define the world in terms of victimhood and villainy, based on broad demographics rather than individual lives. Now, we can debate whether things SHOULD be framed in that way. I'd argue that yes, in fact we do need some of that. I would, for example, offer scholarships and as much financial and social support as possible for the dwindling native population, and that this support is so important I'd blanket the entire demographic with it, whether individuals really need the assistance or not.

However, I'd argue that PC memes, collectively, serve to enable and justify poor behavior. Now, I can't say that the people I've personally had to deal with represent the PC left; I can, however, say that they were definitely drawing strength from the PC left in dodging their personal responsibilities. As I said before, I think it's similar to the terrorist--Muslim relationship: not all Muslims are terrorists, but a heck of a lot of terrorists are Muslims. Not a lot of liberal left are PC assholes, but the PC assholes are definitely a product of the left. You'll note that Peterson doesn't castigate the left or the right-- it is the RADICAL left that he's always talking about-- i.e. the ones I call liberal fascists.

My perception is that there's probably a great deal of that-- I suspect it is nearly all-pervasive. People tend not to take responsibility for their own shortcomings, and the PC meme-set is such a convenient ready-made narrative that I would be surprised if every failed artist or musician, every unemployed asshole with a philosophy degree, every black person who grew up in a perfectly decent neighborhood but didn't study hard enough to succeed in college-- I would be very surprised if those people DIDN'T spin this ready-made complaint about demographic oppression.

Just tossing it out there, man.  I don't have to dig into your personality..again..you decided to share.  I respect that you have the presence of mind to know yourself at least enough to possess the dots even if you haven't quite connected them yet.

I don't see anything in that I would disagree with, but I also don't see anything about banning alpha males or blaming whitey for the rain (or lack thereof).

You're presenting a caricature of the pc left common to right wing talking heads of the most dickish order, not telling me in no uncertain terms what it is.   Are you aware of that?

Endlessly creative assholes, as we've discussed..but I never got an answer as to how you went from there to your description of why you had the anxieties and insecurities you do..which you volunteered as information..or how you got from those people to how the pc left was morally weak.

Add your suspicions to your anxieties and insecurities.

-the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

What's morally weak..about that?  Where..in that....is the white man being blamed for the common cold?  Where..in that...are -you- being victimized?

That;s what Im driving at.  Continuing with examples offered in thread..and adding a dose of reality;

The pc left contends that we should probably call people by their names.  We do it all the time.  Somebody comes up and says "Hi, My name is Sarah".  We say, Hi sarah, nice to meet you.  A person who keeps calling sarah steve is going out of their way to be an asshole.  How hard is it to call a person by their name..like we do all day everyday?  It may even be that this person is transgender.....but that change doesn't change any preceding fact or statement.

The caricature of the pc left contends, on the other hand..that you are forced to call and/or think that sarah is a pretty princess...even if she's really an icky transgender named steve.

One of these things is not like the other.

Who objects to calling sarah...sarah? Is it "too extreme" to call sarah..sarah? Is calling sarah..sarah, an attack on white masculinity?

But min that's compelled speech because in the bigots opinion that person is not a Sarah. Of course people like Peterson bitch that a word was invented to describe something (while pretending he isn't denying trans people exist ) and whining that he needs to use the word in a formal setting like thousands of other words.
