You know, reading the title, I was tempted to invoke my Jesse Custer pic, but the fact is, over 1000 kids being molested over 70 years by 300 separate priests... well, that sounds about right, I reckon. Why, yes, the situation is horrible when I can look at that number and think "sounds about right."

Are they not faring better? I'd say everyone is faring better than the Catholic priests when it comes to molesting children.

Protestant churches are simply more diffuse than the catholics.  It seems to me that every other day some baptist or evangelical shitball is getting busted for fucking the kiddies.  This one is from last week.

Fuck defrocked/excommunicated! Why aren't they in prison!? I have a tough time reading through this thread, not being a baby-raper myself. I volunteered for the BSA when my sons were young. Don't judge me, it was early in my life, before atheism. The first thing that happened at training was we got to watch a video about pedophilia. I got pissed, because that isn't why I volunteered. Then I realized that it must be a problem. Total news to me, but then I was trained as a physicist, not a psychologist. Our units were careful to observe the policies, in order to avoid that problem. One unit I was in (Boy Scouts) was playing kind of fast and loose with the rules about having 2 adults present, and I left. They didn't ever violate that policy when I was there, but the Scoutmaster always tried to push it.   Not cool. Every time you see a report in the news about a boy being molested, it turns out that only one adult (almost invariably the Scoutmaster) was there on the outing. I've had Scoutmasters ask if they can borrow a boy's parent's big truck to haul gear to an outing. When they refuse, the Scoutmaster jokingly says, "So, you trust me with your boy, but not your vehicle!?".

I was listening to The Daily today and the correspondent was saying that so many of the priests are having sex with adult men and women, and that a large part of the covering up is that the pedophiles have blackmail ammunition on the other priests, the ability to expose them for breaking their vows.

A disgusting culture of secrecy.
