RICO is a federal statute, and the move from local DA to Federal DA will likely take a while. And even then, this would have to be an international case, and in RICO cases, other countries tend to only cooperate when their own nation's laws are broken. Bear in mind that the Vatican is its own sovereign nation and actually had the cover-up of priestly sexual abuse ENSHRINED IN LAW until fairly recently.

Actually the vatican's onpy claim to nationhood is a treaty signed with Mussolini in 1929. It actually satisfies none of the requirements needed for recognition by the United Nations. Threating the vatican as a country is a polite fiction that can be dealt with at the stroke of a pen.

Ooooh, a meekly worded letter, signed by a pathetically small percentage of church members. Yeah, I reckon that'll work... :/

Well, it's better than thoughts and prayers, I suppose. Baby steps...

But why do there have to be different versions for men and women? Is there some huge sex-related difference of opinion on the matter, which is being addressed?

The Vatican has had Permanent Observer status within the UN since 1964.

And even if you can easily discount the Vatican’s claim to nationhood, it’s surrounded on all sides by Italy, and even then, there’s no guarantee they’d participate in a RICO case against the Pope.

The female version comes from a catholic women's forum. The women on there got together 1 week ago and wrote it. And I think their idea for writing their own letter was because Pope Francis always talked about how important women were to the church. So it was kind of their way of holding him accountable for his word.

And then the men just kinda copied one for themselves 2 days ago.

Anyway, that is why there are two letters.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Dear Holy father,

I know it took hard work to make it look to some like the church is taking tentative steps to depart 15th and mosey on over to the 19th century, but you went about it all the wrong way. Simply dessolving the church completely, open all of vatican’s Archives, and disburse its vast gotten loot to those in real need would bring the Church all the way to the end of the 20th century. Whaddaya say?

The Catholic church has been ignoring this for decades even after governments (my own included ) have pressured them .I have no confidence in this petition it's far from the first . Hell in Canada we still have not gotten the church to admit it's role in the residential schools or gotten an apology .

The point of these exercises is not to remedy the catholic churches responsibility for their crimes, but to absolve the laity for their complicity in the same by the most ineffectual means possible.

"Well, we -did- write a pleading letter to have the faithful look into this stuff!"

Mind, I don't think it's intentional fuckery.  More an example of people wishing to register their displeasure without actually doing anything that might endanger their favorite supplier of religious drugs.  You tell the guy his shit was weak....but you don't turn him in.

Faulty premise.  The hierarchy thinks the pedo-priests are the real victims.

Why are you pleading to a bunch of parasites who has never done a minute of productive work in their lives and engorged themselves instead through fraud, deceit, abuse, and dragging society backwards towards rampant primitive superstitionism? Are you truly so self loathing that you would regard parasites such as those to be your betters?
