So to me it would have been truly amazing if a religion born out of this subtext did not turn out to be pathologically homophobic.

Given that the gospels were written between 40 and 60 years after the death of Jesus, by people who weren't eyewitnesses (even eye witnesses are quite unreliable) and had their own agendas and biases. The portrait of Jesus and his "apostles" is in no way was an accurate one.

If jesus's "ministry" was founded in part on shared escapism from homosexual self loathing, then this subtext will undoubtedly attract like to like and persist through many generations.

I'm not sure the early Christians were repressed-gay self-loathers. They had a lot of contempt for hetero sex as well. Paul suggested that his lifestyle of celibacy was superior, with marriage being for those who "could not contain". Jesus at one point suggests self-castration to get into Heaven. Whatever their sexualities, these were people who clearly weren't comfortable with them. Straights can be self-loathers too.

If there can be said to be such a thing as spirituality, coming to terms with one's sexuality (whatever that may be) in a healthy way is essential to that pursuit. A true "Word of God" should be expected to offer better advice on matters of sex. That the Bible fails so miserably only underscores just what a fraud it is.

Those homosexuals without the ability to enjoy heterosexuality and possessing a self-loathing for their homosexuality may well seek escape in some imagined virtue in celibacy. The sentence would remain true if the prefix homo- and hetro- were to be swapped. But given that this is Jesus who is not known to have shown any orthodox inclination of a sexual nature, repressed homosexuality would appear more likely to the fundamental psychological subtext.

There are a lot of reasons. For one thing, I notice that modern christianity hates on gay people more than adulterers even though Jesus supposedly reiterated that 'God hates divorce' yet did not mention homosexuality at all. Why is that?

It is because it is easier to reject 'otherness' to be rejected and strengthens identity.

Perhaps it came about because back in the day children were needed for war and more children meant more power, especially for a nation amongst other warring nations.

Religiously, some christians are against gay people because it is seen as a rejection of God's Will and will lead the country into destruction. These same people also believe that hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, etc come as God's just punishment on evil people or people who tolerate evil.

At best some christians see gay people as having a mental disorder or demon possession needing therapy or exorcism. Or perhaps some enlightened christians may tolerate gay people as long as they stay in the closet.

In Matthew Jesus stresses the importance of obeying the OT laws so Jesus indirectly does say shit.
Quote:Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:12

Quote:For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it.

One early "church father" by the name Origen was said to have castrated himself after reading this passage of scripture.

Although Matthew 19:12 contradicts Deuteronomy 23:1 which says "“No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.". :-s

My 12 year old sister's friends think she is evil because she is okay with homosexuality. They also hit here when she says "oh my god" or swears. WTF? I want to teach them a lesson about how life works. Anyways, Jesus himself, as far as I know, said nothing about homosexuality. But Leviticus GREATLY detests it.

I think somewhere Jesus gives the impression that he's against the Old Testament laws.

But, I know that Jesus says somewhere else that he hasn't come to change the Old Testament laws he's came to carry them out.
