It could be a racial slur if made toward a Native American.
With Warren, it's calling out her cultural appropriation. RE: Elizabeth Warren impressed me

I can see it being insensitive if you are calling every Indian female you are referencing Pocahontas. But I guess that is what I was getting at. Is there anything inherently racists about it. Or would it be more akin to calling a male butler "Jeeves", even though that is not their name?

Nope, nothing inherently racist about it. It's like calling someone Einstein when they do something dumb. The point you're making is simply that the target isn't in the group of the reference. It's not disparaging toward the group of the reference at all.

By definition the middle (or undecided) are STILL open to voting Republican. That means they’re idiots. Idiots love racism. Trump calls her Pocahontas and their tiny brains have them pointing and drooling like a bunch of 4th graders. And... that’s why democracy sucks. This is where you end up. Hmm. Can you recognize the racism in calling a Native woman 'Pocahontas'?
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
Calling her Pochahonta's was clearly used in a racist way .The lengths Trump supporters will go to excuse his actions are just amazing .
