Illegalizing guns would open them up a new market in the manufacture and sale of weapons. One bad side effect - the possession of illegal sub- machine guns would rise drastically - as they are the easiest repeating firearm to manufacture. ( less parts than a semi- auto.)

Then why hasn't that happened in New Zealand, Japan, Australia, the UK, Germany, or any other country that puts sensible restrictions on gun ownership?  I've lived in NZ for more than a dozen years now, and sub-machine guns are conspicuous by their absence.

I know we don't have the same government set ups. And you are right, undoing 40 years of Rambo/Dirty Harry mindset isn't going to change over night. 

I would bet however, if the founders WHOM themselves regulated Muskets and musket balls sizes, could see how abused their 2nd Amendment has been since the ink was dry on it, they might have used stronger language to make people understand that it was not about individuals playing Rambo, but preventing government tyranny. 

I really DO NOT expect a utopia where all guns are banned in America. And as I said, they are not banned in Australia or Japan either. It is because their populations are pragmatic, and realistic and public safety is the priority.

If they say "Just keep them out of the wrong hands" and the left agrees, we should do that then why not take advice from other countries whom are are allies as to how to go about doing just that? 

An object has no magic power to jump off a counter and kill someone all by itself. But just like a holy book, someone can pick it up, read it, and justify harm to others based upon what they read. So attitude about the object is what nobody wants to face. It isn't a matter of chasing a utopia, but is as simple as saying if everything worked the way they want to claim, we would not see the amount of firearm violence and death we do. 

It is that old saying, "The worst thing you can do to solve a problem is to repeat the same behaviors and expect different results"

My point is, what are Australia and NZ and Japan doing that leads them to have almost no firearm violence? If they are our allies, AND THEY ARE, why are too many Americans too proud to learn from other nations who do a better job?

Because many of these are the "America is number one and the rest of the world doesn't matter" crowd.

I had an argument with one of these idiots some time ago who was whining that America is always helping other countries but other countries don't help America when there are disasters.

I pointed out that both NZ and Oz have provided emergency support a number of times, and has had firefighters on the ground in California on several occasions during wildfires. After New Orleans was pulverised I believe both governments not only offered rescue teams, but military support staff as well.

It was turned down.

Not only am I thinking "What if" when I go to the sports bar on Sunday, but every time there is a mass shooting that makes national news, I also think about my neighbors whom have kids and wonder if I am going to hear about a school shooting where they go to school.
