Some of us actually care about whether or not we hold true or delusional beliefs.  I know...I know, imagine that!

Why? Why do you as a biological creature, care about whether or not your hold true or false beliefs? 

"Have no greater joy than these things, that I should hear of my children walking in the truth."

For me truth and meaning an intrinsic link, Truth is the ultimate source of meaning, and fulfillment, it's to know God. I want my children to know the truth, so that can live a meaningful life. Life has an intrinsic meaning and purpose, and my children knowing what the is, is knowing the truth.

So it might make sense to me why people like myself prioritize truth as the highest goal. 

It's a bid odd to me when atheists treat truth the same way, as an end itself to be sought. Particularly when truth is just a series of scientific truths about reality, descriptions about reality itself.

My kids came to atheism spontaneously. By using their brains.

Don't know what brainwashing you are heaping on your kids.

I don't have to brainwash my kids at all. They'll know the truth, not based on something I tell them, but based on what's shown, and cannot be said. Hopefully as evident in my life, my wife's life, my communities life for them, as it was for me.

Why do you, as a biological creature, care whether or not the water is real or a mirage?

Because I need to drink water to live. Since a mirage doesn't provide actual water, my brain needs to decipher what water is, in order for me to live and survive.

Where as for non-scientist in particular, an average amount of scientific knowledge suffices. Learning more about physics or biology then just the basic HS level, or entry level college course, is probably excessive and unnecessary in terms of any real material benefits for most people.

-and there you have it.  Our continued existence powerfully depends on the accuracy of the things we believe.  Is there some other explanation required for why a creature would seek out that accuracy, or feel rewarded when they find it, or when they think they've found it?

That you don't value knowledge beyond the hs level or think that it confers benefits is a you problem. We have a lot of free riders nowadays. A testament to the benefits conferred by knowledge.

I'll put it this way. The reason I am firmly convinced about the truth of the Gospel, is not because of some peculiar theology, some Sunday school lesson, any sort of active effort to teach or force  me to believe x things about the bible, etc... But in seeing the Gospel, Christ embodied in the life of my friends, in my mother. Whats mere words on a page, is given life in them, the grace of god upon their life.

Not even the best articulation of what I mean by this, could convey what this life means, particularly for those who have not seen it, or partook in such a life, or broke bread at a table with it. And I imagine for unbelievers, it's no less clear what I mean here, than before you asked. Because as I said, it's not something said, or heard, but something shown. 

"I am the way, the truth, and the life". One has to see that, to believe that. I see this, and as result I believe this.

That's the same reason children in many remote villages believe in witches with the power of the evil eye or other evil powers. Everyone around them takes it for granted that witches are real, behave exactly as if witches were real, point to things like blighted crops and unhappy 'accidents' as evidence of the work of witches. It's not surprising when they still believe in witches when they grown up.

I don't have to brainwash my kids at all. They'll know the truth, not based on something I tell them, but based on what's shown, and cannot be said. Hopefully as evident in my life, my wife's life, my communities life for them, as it was for me.

Yeah, as if your kids being surrounded by many adult authority figures, that all believe in the same unevidenced, irrational beliefs, does not have any indoctrinating effect on them.

Sunday church, Bible study, Christian youth camp, etc... No indoctrination there, nope.

Sorry, but I've been there. You may not believe you are brainwashing your kids, but that doesn't change the fact.
