Ah, but wikileaks did consider the consequences....lol, that's how they decided what to release and when to release it. 
They used whistleblowers, in the filthiest sense of the word..when they weren't getting fed their info directly from their handlers, ofc.
There's a fun secret that the world could have used, that some whistleblower could have divulged - wikileaks and assange had been under the eyeball for some time - as the conspiracy theorists of the world imagined them to be caped crusaders of journalism.

Assange was not like a French Resistance fighter in WW2 Germany. He is an opportunist, and would have sold out the likes of Ann Frank if he thought the outcome would benefit him.

For the record, I never referred to Assange as being a "hero". The man is definitively not a perfect individual (no doubt the sexual assault accusation against him, now dismissed, was probably true to begin with), only, that his creation, Wikileaks, has been a force for good, albeit, not a perfect one. Still, I think that it is silly to impute to him the consequences of the evil actions committed by others. It's kind of like saying that we here in the US have to capitulate to some of Trump's supporters out of fear of the evil things that they might do, if they do not get their way, and then, holding us "responsible" for their evil acts.

The funniest part about today, was he fancied himself a "resister" and had to be carried out of the Embassy. He was simply another trailer park extra on Cops who had to be carried out to the car.
He was not a 1960s Edmund Pettus Bridge protester. He was just an asshole who wanted to play James Bond.
