The Roy Rogers myth of the "Good guy" is just that, bullshit. Stranger on stranger interaction with a firearm is rare compared to suicide in the home, domestic violence in the home, or accidental in the home. And like you said, even if you introduce a firearm in a stranger on stranger event, you are more likely to get injured or killed, or injure a bystander than to successfully hit your intended target.

Civilians even with concealed or open carry permits still do not have the constant stress shooting training required that law enforcement has to maintain through out their careers.

And the Dallas police murders are a perfect example as to why public carry is a bad idea. 5 cops were murdered, but it took hours longer to finally spot the killer because of all the insecure morons they had to stop and check to make sure they were not the perp.

Unless you have a uniform or job that requires you to carry in public, leave that shit at home or locked up in your car.
I have a CCW but I almost never carry in public. I have 3 guns in total. An AR15, .12 gauge and a glock. All of them are kept AT HOME in a safe. They are solely for self defense and the shooting range. I have never had the desire to take them out in public. I think that's stupid for a plethora of reasons. Most people do it for show and are usually compensating for something when they do.

You' ll have to forgive my skepticism.

I wasn't aware that second guessing hypothetical situations was a valid scientific method.

Good for you that you lock them up. Still not the point.

We do not live in a perfect world where everyone thinks like you. Firearms are made like toys and marketed like toys, and far too many people go into a buy thinking it is as simple as having no record.

I do not see why anyone should have a problem with a ban on big clips or assault weapons. I do not see why anyone should have a problem with a buyback program.

I especially do not see why any shop owner or seller should think it is evil to check out the person they are selling to.

Even the political right on this issue says, "Just keep them out of the wrong hands".  I agree, so they shouldn't shit their pants when I agree with them.

In a perfect world if everyone locked up their guns, and we had the same stats as our allies like Australia or Canada or New Zealand, again, nobody would be bitching.

But the truth for now remains, we make them like candy and hand them out like candy.

Damn you got me, because our firearm violence stats are just like shitting ice cream and puppies.

When you wish upon a big clip, the truth is you don't really give a shit.

No, I am not running from the hurricane because I can simply shoot it with my AR-15.

My problem has never been gun ownership in and of itself, but the delusional thinking of far too many on the right that everything can be solved with firearms.

"It's raining outside, sell more guns"

"My NFL team lost, sell more guns"

"An ABBA fan exists, sell more guns"

"I hate pineapple on pizza, sell more guns".

"Someone votes differently than I do, sell more guns."

Again how is it our wealthiest allies comparative to us, don't have the same amount of firearm violence we do?

I think a lot of Americans share the same viewpoint as you do. I think the bigger issue is how the NRA is able to dictate the gun control debate. The NRA isn't what it used to be. They don't care about people's 2nd Amendment rights. They care about pleasing their shareholders who sell guns. They are essentially a marketing arm for guns. Their number 1 goal is to sell sell and sell. If they did not have as much as an influence as they currently do-we would probably see some action being taken. The NRA is basically a corporation disguised as a humble organization. The only reason they survive is because they have sold this paranoid fear that people are coming for their guns-when that is so far from the truth.

I’m making my own kids scrub the walls for prep, and I’m covering the holes.

I don’t want to hear any bullshit about “ home defense” from someone who hasn’t. Period.

No one.....fucking no one, should ever shoot a gun in their home. The idea is ludicrous. If you have a gun, and imagine yourself popping off rounds in-home......that’s exhibit one for being a fucking idiot who shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun.

We have all kinds of rights, but none that exist in a vacuum of the responsibility of using them.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I hate the term "gun control". The right loves the fact we use it, because just like the word "socialist" they don't fucking use it the same way sane people do.

Yes, the NRA is literally is using Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm as playbooks.

Goebbels would love the NRA and GOP if alive today.
