[Quranic Reflection]: Magic

[Quranic Reflection]: Magic
"Magic" is defined to be:

Quote:mag·ic

/ˈmajik/
noun
noun: magic
the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.
"suddenly, as if by magic, the doors start to open"

http://www.google.com

There are many claims that "magic" is a real thing; mainly used to prove any false claim that has no evidence at all. Usually, used by the smarter portion of society to suppress the questions of the less smart.

But what is the Quran's opinion in magic? claims were made by the Sunni/Shiite institutions alike that magic exists as a fact in the Quran. Despite having little to no direct evidence from the book.

But let's see this interesting verses speaking about magic:

Quote:Sura 20, The Quran:
https://quran.ksu.edu.sa/index.php?l=en#...rans=en_sh

( 60 )   So Pharaoh went away, put together his plan, and then came [to Moses].
( 61 )   Moses said to the magicians summoned by Pharaoh, "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."
( 62 )   So they disputed over their affair among themselves and concealed their private conversation.
( 63 )   They said, "Indeed, these are two magicians who want to drive you out of your land with their magic and do away with your most exemplary way.
( 64 )   So resolve upon your plan and then come [forward] in line. And he has succeeded today who overcomes."
( 65 )   They said, "O Moses, either you throw or we will be the first to throw."
( 66 )   He said, "Rather, you throw." And suddenly their ropes and staffs seemed to him from their magic that they were moving [like snakes].
( 67 )   And he sensed within himself apprehension, did Moses.
( 68 )   Allah said, "Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior.
( 69 )   And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is."
( 70 )   So the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses."

"The trick of a magician" is what the Quran used to describe magic.
"a lie" too.
Magic is the outdated "lie"; a mere "trick" used to convince ignorant people of a lie.

Why should anyone care what the Quran thinks magic is, Atlas?
Nay_Sayer: “Nothing is impossible if you dream big enough, or in this case, nothing is impossible if you use a barrel of KY Jelly and a miniature horse.”

Wiser words were never spoken.

Because both the Sunni/Shiite institutions are saying otherwise based on the "Hadith".

Every magic book talks shit about the other guys magic, Atlas. It's one of the most peculiar and constant ticks of magic books. Goes like this, in every language, at all times-

Their magic is bullshit, our bullshit is magic!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

But the Quran says, as mentioned in the OP:

Quote:Sura 20, The Quran:

Nothing like that is in the Quran.
But maybe the bible will have answers to you; derived from Roman folklore.

That's why Muslims see Disney's "Aladdin" as a documentary.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Solomon was a witch.  Or so the story goes.

Anywho, Atlas, magic book is recounting their version of a story in old magic book, wherein moses throws down what's in his hand, and it turns into an even more powerful bit of magic that eats the others. This story was explicitly derived from egyptian mythology (as a polemic against egyptian mythology). It's of pre-roman origin. It's also a wonderful example of precisely what I just explained to you. Their magic is bullshit, our bullshit is magic.

Back when people still openly believed in magic, any given religion had to have the greater magic than it's competitors. Imagine if McDonalds ran advertising that went- "Big Macs, almost as good as Whoppers!". Can't see it, can you?
