The shock of seeing those metrics move drives reactionary positions.

Explain why schools are so dangerous.

It obviously is not an abundance of guns.

We have established that.

I don't think they are.  I think that our threshold for danger is buried somewhere under the foundation, is all.  Rightly so.  Schools have largely replaced churches as functionally sacrosanct.  The abundance of guns...in a school...is most certainly a factor in the rate of gun violence or gun death in that school.

That's why we don't let kids bring guns to schools.  That would be insane.

My dad went to a one room schoolhouse - as did several other older people in this neighborhood - and they all say the same thing.

All the boys brought guns to school - so.they could shoot some dinner on the way home .

The guns were stored by the door - loaded.

Additionally - every kid carried a knife.

There were no incidents.

If you've designated a safe storage, then the guns aren't being brought to school in any meaningful way. By all means, harden schools and add amnesty lockers. It can't hurt, and it might help.

Do you think that your dads experience would track with overall data? Might we go look and see whether or not kids were shot or stabbed at schools during those decades?

Argument by anecdote.

OLB goes for the error of small samples. Because big ones refute his position.

Where are you the least likely to get shot?

1. A church.
2. A school.
3. A bar.
4. A gun show.

....

Bonus question - which one has the most armed people?

You just moved the goal posts.

The funny part is that gun shows probably won't be the answer to that one either. My money is on bars.

5mil a year at gun shows? How many instances of an armed person walking into a bar every year?

False limitations. A bar with no guns is safer than a bar with lots of guns. I've been in epic bar fights on four continents and nobody died because nobody had guns.

The point of dad's story is rather obvious..

Guns have not changed. If someone shoots you in the head with a single shot 22 - you will be just as dead if they shoot you with an AK47.

People have changed.

And.obviously not for the better.

So we should listen to you- a person who self admits to having no self control, and finds violence "fun".

No thanks.

The murder rate is down, it's only mass shootings that are up. If you want to reduce the call for more gun control, come up with a better and practical way to curb that. Arming teachers has led to a slew of gun accidents, so that one doesn't seem to track well.

Agreed.  People have changed and, along with that, the gun culture in the US has changed.  Which is why your Dad's experience with guns at his school isn't really relevant.
