Here in the crusty northwest corner of the dirty south, deer is free for many. Typically, one has a deer crazy friend or relative who likes to share their stores. Now, the hunters who harvest the animals spend quite a bit on leases, weapons, ATV's, related gear and sweat equity. Not to mention processing and taxidermy. Without free venison and bags and bags of bass and crappie from my grandparents, I would have lived on noodles as a young man.

I, um, use the mount the boys that have my Ma Deuce on long term loan built. It's legal if twenty-four cops say it's legal. And those young men do the haulin', I don't have to lift a finger, except the one on the paddle. Deer at least in the Northeast and Midwest are more common than dirt. And we have an overpopulation problem, it’s to the point that they’re wandering through East freakin’ Cleveland. Can someone explain to me why we’re not eating these garden ruining fucks? We're overrun because there are fewer hunters and greater social opposition to hunting. Meanwhile, it's illegal to sell uninspected wild game meat. I’m aware, and it’s a cause for concern here. If one case of CWD shows up, our venison industry is fucked. Boru

Here in the UK venison is slightly more expensive than beef, lamb, and pork, but not massively so. Deer have a habit of jumping out in front of vehicles at night (I think they have some sort of attraction to the lights) and if one gets wasted some people will pick up what's left and take it home to eat - that's as cheap as you can get! |
