US police brutality item
RE: US police brutality item
Just an interesting thing to note, Chris Hansen has a YouTube page and he’s currently streaming a couple nights a week. Last night, he did a stream on this incident, and among the interviewees is Chris Swanson, sheriff of Gennessee County, and he does not mince words about The question of Chauvin’s guilt, particularly Starting at 22:25:

Self-defense is a valid concept, but whatever the fuck happened between the two meeting and the moment Chauvin pushed Floyd’s neck to the ground, nothing could possibly justify an 8 minute, 46 second strangling, especially since Floyd lost consciousness two thirds of the way through and was already handcuffed before the knee went on his neck. There is no context that could make this a reasonable claim of self defense. It’s about an open or shut case as that episode of Better Call Saul where the prosecutor needs only to show the footage of the teens breaking into the mortuary and screwing a severed head and he wins without saying a word. Ironically, he might have had a bit more of a leg to stand on if he just shot him!

Why stop there. He'd have had more of a leg to stand on if he shot the people taping him and every other witness as well. The shellshocked survivor of some insane one off event where thirty people just happened to be gunned down is more plausible than denying a murder captured in real time on video.

That's pretty much the first rule of violent crime. Leave no witnesses, and only your side of the story to tell.

"I was attempting to detain the suspect, who was resisting, when I was rushed by the crowd."

I'm entirely certain that we could find a jury who would refuse to entertain the notion that a cop murdered onlookers in cold blood in broad daylight on account of it being simply too crazy...and yet.....

It doesn't.  I'm proud to be an american.  I hope that one day you too will find your inner american.

You mean you hope that one day everyone will conform to your opinions.

If the cop is found guilty by a court of law - I will no doubt assume he is guilty - and have no problems seeing him spend a long, long time inside looking out...

The difference between us - is if he is acquitted you will rail against the legal sysyem and loudly continue to believe he is guilty and the courts are corrupt.

I didn't realize that there was some difference of the american opinion™ as to whether the state should be brutalizing folks.

I learn something new every day.

I'll correct myself, then. I hope that you one day find your inner american, from the subset of americans who think that the state shouldn't brutalize folks.

Your bullshit is thick but we know what you mean -
White cop/black man = cop guilty.

You examine one case and all others are the same.
Every time without fail.
And anyone who doesn't agree is a racist.
Got it.

It hardly matters what color the cop or the victim is. How can I be more clear? I have a strong bias against any form of state sanctioned violence against americans. If another state does it, I'm against it. If our state does it, I'm against it. They could be green and purple, and I'm against it. Not in a boat, not in a house, not on a train or in a plane.

I will make no excuses for that violence, I cannot hide my contempt for people that do, and you will be forever incapable of making me feel shame for this. I, on the other hand, will never cease to remind you of your own shame, and the completely unamerican nature of your thoughts on this subject.

Oh, no, see, you misunderstand.

While I have a strong bias against the state engaging in violence against it's own people, I have no such bias against people violently pushing back on the state. Or, you know...how we became a state to begin with.

Does that clear anything up? I don't care whether or not we're angels...and I'd honestly rather stand against jack booted thugs with straight up killers. We'd get more done. This business of politely asking a violent state to stop killing you doesn't seem to work. You might have noticed that the man in the video tried that.
