Given the context in the screenshot, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they were referring to their refusal to fit within the gender binary. Teacher identifies as neither “Mr.” nor “Mrs.”, that’s certainly something that first-graders can pick up on as something unusual.

Also, I'll point they say in another post their students are aware they are gay because they have met their wife

My students know about and have met my wife at school, they know I’m queer, and the turtles will call ANYBODY out for calling me “mrs” anything. I told them my story once & never needed to say it again. If only adults adjusted as quickly and easily, it may save many of our lives.

I see no problem with this straight teachers are allowed to talk about their families so why shouldn't gay people be allowed to. Gay relationships aren't just about sex.

Those questions speak to what make me different than the way they were socialized to perceive me. It doesn’t mean that I am having conversations about sex in my classroom. Don’t be egregiously absurd. Queerness as a gender identity has nothing to do with who I sleep with or what body parts I have, nor would I ever discuss such a thing with children. It is your own internalized perversion that you’re upset with, not me. My school, students and their parents know me and my wife and they support me as an educator. My students love me dearly and I work hard daily to continue sustaining a healthy relationship with them in return.

What he not getting is Queer can mean Non-Binary so the kids could be asking the Prof about that.

I guess that's a no.

I'm convinced that education is the magic bullet, that's why I think the question is reasonable. I'm not talking about getting qualifications.  Even high school can teach you critical thinking if you have good teacher and pay attention.
