They all went to school, and here they are, as they are, after all.

I did make 2 caveats; a good teacher and paying attention.

At the catholic schools I attended, we learned by rote, reinforced with a strap, sometimes on a daily basis. I learned very little and left without finishing high school. My education began after I'd left high school. Finished high school at night. I spent a total of 13 years studying part time.

Contrary to popular belief, a person doesn't need to be especially bright to earn most undergraduate degrees. A modest IQ can earn a pretty good degree if motivated, focussed and committed.

There's a show about Colton Underwood. Don't see myself watching it, though.

After a Catholic priest has a student remove her gay pride shirt, classmates step up to support her

At Father John J. “Jack” Lombardi’s direction, witnesses told The Brew, the school principal directed the homeroom teacher to tell the girl her shirt would have to come off. The teacher made her remove it in front of the other students as they stood at the back of the church.

“For the rest of the day, everyone was very angry about it,” said her 7th grade classmate, Dylan Hoffman, speaking at this morning’s mass.

He and dozens of other students, as well as parents and other adults, showed up at the church wearing rainbow-striped gay pride Covid masks. Many also wore white tee shirts with the rainbow-hued message, “I am a child of god.”

Hoffman said the students organized this show of support as a way to stand with their classmate whose mother is gay.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Terrific stuff.

I've mentioned that I grew up Irish Catholic. IMO that is the most superstitious, pig ignorant, dogmatic, petty ,spiteful and hateful form of a pernicious religion.

That post really struck a nerve. We had some Irish priests and nuns. Some of the nuns were so ignorant and and superstitious that my mother went to see the mother superior twice: I was five. First time it was because I was having nightmares over gruesome tales about martyrs. The other because I began saying "The devil made me do it" when I did something naughty. Set fire to the cat, that kind of thing.***

The disgusting, judgemental attitude of that priest was pretty pervasive as I was growing up. So pleased some of the faithful have given that cunt the finger.

*** No, of course I didn't really. I was never cruel to animals. Didn't like bees much after I'd been stung a few times.

I'd ask what the odds are that Fr. Lombardi's fucking one of his choir boys, but, we know exactly what those odds are:

Also, part of me wants to imagine that the girl would find some way to make it say "Hell, yeah, I'm taking my shirt off. See anything you like, girls?" But the rest of me actually read the article and know she's WAY too young for that, even if it would be a great act of defiance.

European Union official dresses as transgender Virgin Mary

The gay and transgender ambassador to the European Union Parliament, Riccardo Simonetti, is facing criticism after appearing on a magazine cover as a transgender Virgin Mary.

"If we ignore the fact that Jesus wasn't white, we could as well believe the Virgin Mary had a beard, why not?" Simonetti posted.

Is it weird that I’m finding myself irresistibly drawn to posting this scene?

Given that trans women lack uteruses (and that a uterine transplant is such an insanely “high risk, low reward” surgery that many professionals wonder if it’s even worth it for cis women), having a trans Virgin Mary does seem to pimp-slap Willing Suspension of Disbelief more than usual. Where’s the fetus going to gestate? In a box?

Of course, maybe if it’s just an unusually hairy cis woman (even just at Frida Kahlo levels), it would work.
