Don't have to get far to see that the effect isn't coming from staffing or wage increases in the dept.

I'd post more, but the next few pages of links that I get when I google "policing reduces crime rates"...are ones explaining that it doesn't. Do you think this might persuasively argue that a police officer ought to be out patrolling, rather than moonlighting as an emt or a social worker? Do you think it might persuasively argue that if we can get four officers patrolling for the price of one desk jockey gaming the pay system...we should go with the officers patrolling?

Coincides with the peak of police hiring, before the fall..in which crime continued to fall even as numbers of officers fell. The dates on their referenced data jump out.
