I won't be getting the vax anytime soon, even though I am eligible at this point. Bret Weinstein and his lovely wife Heather Heying just defended Joe Rogan and said it's a perfectly reasonable position. We know nothing about the long term effects. I have zero concern about immediate effects like blood clots or whatever else. It's the long term effects we are clueless about.
My parents had said they weren't going to get their vax, so I told them I would get mine and convinced them to get it, because I wanted them to get it as they are more at risk from SARS CoV-2. They've gotten their first shot, so I told them, now I don't need to get it. Really old people or super obese and unhealthy people are almost always the ones that die from this, and most of those people are vaxed now. I'm pretty much a cripple and don't work anyways, so I don't see why I would need to get it right now. I'm happy to wear a mask in stores and get my flu shot though. Obviously I don't wear a mask outside because that's silly and there is no evidence of transmission outdoors other than at packed rallies where people are up against each other.

The flu shot is brand new every year, too. You don't know the long-term effects of that either.
You know what we don't fully understand the long-term effects of?
COVID.
Your logic is seriously flawed and I am sorry for that.

Long term effects of various COVID vaccines: A greatly reduced chance of getting COVID.
Short term effects of getting the vaccine: Headache, fever.
Long term effects of not getting the vaccine: Death/fucking up the lives of other people.

Bad idea. Watch for the next spike in COVID19 deaths.
Why?
Because the morons who oppose vaccination are the type that are happy to run about without a mask. They will insure a new spread of the virus.
Oh well.
We' re overpopulated anyway.
The intent is to get the economy back on it's feet again. But out of all the things we fight over, this is one time I do think this could be a gigantic mistake. We've seen other countries move too quickly only to have a giant setback.
Even right now, in my state, being out shopping, I am extremely irritated at seeing more and more people not wearing masks.
But the other thing that is going on with the anti maskers and anti vaxxers, is that we may be stuck with a stubborn portion of the population that will never listen.
I don't want America to end up like some of our other allies that opened up too early.

On the other hand, we know quite a lot about the long term effects of death.

There isn't going to be an economy to worry about, no matter what we decide to do - open up, close down - so long as there is a plague.

If I've learned a goddamned thing over the last sixteen months, it's that I grossly overestimated Americans willingness and ability to successfully self-govern or operate under an honor system.

As an introvert prior to all this I have found out that a person can become even more introverted...I have done it. Other than family (read husband and one daughter), a coworker, and the gentlemen who loads the groceries I order into my car I have pretty much cut out human contact. Each of these "social" events happen once a week.
Monday I go see my doctor which is a first in six months. Our last appointment was four months ago and that was via Facetime.
