I can watch a movie about demons, enjoy the flick, and never really give religion a thought, outside of the movie.

Supernatural, good show.
All of it, make believe.

The Conjuring, enjoyable movie.
All of it, make believe.

This may come as a surprise to you but, I can watch Superman, and not question if I can fly, because...... SPOILER!....I can't.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ABBA ARE NOT GODS?!

Having experienced an oppressive and depressing Catholic upbringing, I seriously doubt I could ever find anything entertaining about religion. I'd much rather seen it criticized and lampooned.

We could just take a pass, ignore religion and find enjoyment elsewhere.

Shouldn't you be making communion wafers somewhere instead of wasting everybody's time here?

Religion does make for some interesting storylines. I'm fond of the Dragonlance series, where a lot of the plot is driven by interactions with the 21-god pantheon (7 good, 7 neutral, 7 evil), with an "honourary" deity in the person of a mage with aspirations to become a god himself.

RE: How atheists can enjoy religion
Atheists can easily appreciate religion on some of it's basis. I certainly appreciate a truly selfless person who engages in acts of kindness toward others. I don't hate the idea of religion but I despise nearly all of how people engage with it. Christians will crow about how their religion is about love and forgiveness and kindness, but what is the overwhelming message that Christianity screams? Conformity! Sin! Rules! Hell! One would think these were two completely unrelated subject. I have no interest in enjoying religion because it offers nothing of use to me. I can engage in anything religion claims to offer without ever appealing to a deity. Mostly I just laugh at Christians, so that is entertaining.
Why is it so?

You're not evil. You're just missing the point of life.

The only anime ever made that's worth two fucks is Akira.

And my friends have made me watch TONS of anime. "This one's cool... you'll like this one." I seldom actually liked it.

I mean... some of it is okay. But that's the most I can say about it. Evangelion was okay. But I'd say that one had more of a Freudian vibe than a religious vibe.

The same could be argued of theists.

I enjoy religion only in the sense of learning about religion from an anthropological, sociological, historical and fictional standpoint, not just Christianity but any religion. What I enjoy even more is criticizing religions when the adherents of any religion do something stupid or horrible in the name of their beliefs, as well as pointing out how illogical such beliefs are. Scyfy channel aired an interesting series in 2014 called "Dominion" loosely based off the film "Legion," which involved Christian mythology. I watched it and liked it well enough. It only lasted 2 seasons. I did not cry over that though.
